"Ten Years" directors reunite at "Beyond the Dream" premiere

9 Jul – The five directors of the highly controversial Hong Kong dystopian film, "Ten Years", recently reunited at the premiere of new movie, "Beyond the Dream" in support of one of their own, Kiwi Choi, who helmed the said film.

As reported on Mingpao, Kiwi, who spoke to the media about his friends Jevons Au, Zune Kwok, Wong Fei Pang, and Ng Ka Leung's appearance at the event, stated that he was touched that everybody came and expressed hope that they will be able to work again together in the future.

Speaking about the new National Security Act that could stop them from making the kind of critical movies that they want, Kiwi stated that it was quite sad and that he cherishes the time they had as it could be the last time.

"But I also don't want to be occupied by fear. I hope that we could choose correctly for our future," he added.

Asked if he is unafraid that the legislation would affect creativity, the filmmaker said, "This is beyond our control, but we would never forget our original intention!"

"Ten Years" which was released in 2015, is a Hong Kong dystopian speculative fiction anthology film, that offers a vision of the semi-autonomous territory in the year 2025, with the Chinese government exerting its influence, causing the diminishing of human rights and freedom. The sensitive political themes of the movie caused the Chinese authorities to censor any reports mentioning the movie and even prohibited mainland broadcasters and internet sites from airing the 35th Hong Kong Film Awards after it nominated the movie in the Best Film category - which "Ten Years" subsequently won.
