Recently opened Teepee Bar & Restaurant may take a bit of a search to find, but it’s definitely worth it. Centrally located near Clarke Quay MRT, it’s the perfect place to drop by for a coffee in the morning (they open at 8am!), a quick lunch, or as your new go-to watering hole after hours.

Seating is limited though, so your best bet would be to beat the lunch crowd or call to make a reservation instead. I loved the simple and bright layout, which utilised the small space well, lending to a cosy and friendly vibe.

A well-stocked bar is proudly displayed in an open plan kitchen, but before I jumped on the booze, I had to get my hands on some of the standouts from the menu.

Teepee is all about serving gourmet food at affordable prices and the menu was conceptualised based on premium ingredients with elevated flavours.

The Spiced Beef Kimchi ($19) is one of the must-try gourmet burgers and I could see why; a juicy and perfectly cooked 150g spiced beef patty came sandwiched between layers of kimchi, cheese and caramelised onions. The kimchi actually paired really well with the brioche bun, which I could’ve honestly eaten on its own.

I feel the need to mention the well-seasoned fries as well, which you can change to have with truffle oil or garlic vinegar instead. Never discount the value of a good accompaniment!

I’ve had my fair share of beef rice bowls in Singapore but a Wagyu Beef Bowl ($24) at that price? I was pretty amazed by the generous portion of wagyu beef that came with very tasty sautéed kale and a silky 63C egg atop a hearty portion of rice.

I loved that the combination of ingredients allowed the natural flavour of the premium beef to shine, and the egg definitely tied all the elements together. If you’re at a loss as to what to order, this won’t disappoint.

Teepee Bar chamomilla

I mentioned a well-stocked bar and the impressive cocktail and alcohol menu is a testament to that. Try the signature Chamomilla ($22) – an inspired infusion of chamomile gin, Togarashi umeshu, homemade jasmine syrup and lemon. Every sip was a tease to my taste buds, alternating between salty, sweet, sour and spicy.

Or perhaps try it in its G&T form ($16), with chamomile-infused gin and East Imperial Burma tonic. Bespoke cocktails are also available, and all you need to do is ask the friendly bar staff for a recommendation.

Speaking of staff, the team behind Teepee are a friendly bunch and patiently describe their menu and concept to customers. Stay for a chat and a specialty coffee after your meal — I promise you won’t regret ordering a Slutty Ice Latte ($6).

Expected damage: $16 – $40 per pax
