TBS Orders ‘Final Space’ Animated Series From Olan Rogers & Conan O’Brien

EXCLUSIVE: TBS’ continues its push in animation with a series greenlight for Final Space, an interstellar animated comedy from indie filmmaker/actor/comedian Olan Rogers, Conan O’Brien’s Conaco, and New Form in association with Turner’s Studio T, for premiere in 2018. (You can watch a preview above)

Co-written by Rogers and David Sacks (Pig Goat Banana Cricket), Final Space is a serialized intergalactic space saga about an astronaut named Gary and his adorable, planet-destroying friend, Mooncake. The series will follow their adventures as they embark on a quest to unlock the mystery of “Final Space,” the place where the entire universe ends. Rogers and Sacks will executive produce with O’Brien, David Kissinger, Larry Sullivan and Jeff Ross of Conaco and Kathleen Grace, Melissa Schneider and Matt Hoklotubbe of New Form. Sacks serves as showrunner.

Rogers, who has strong online following, originally created a seven-minute pilot for Final Space, funded by New Form and released as part of their Incubator 3 Series in April. (You can watch it under the post.) The short, which has garnered 470,000 views to date, quickly caught the attention of O’Brien, who then invited the Nashville-based filmmaker to Los Angeles to bring Final Space to TBS where O’Brien is based via his late-night talk show, producing various other primetime and late-night series for the network.

“Olan pitched us Final Space voicing all the characters and dancing around the conference room,” said Thom Hinkle, SVP of original programming for TBS. “It was kind of like a comedic MOON – genuinely funny and oddly heartfelt. We bought it in the room. So did other networks. We’re glad he chose us. XO.”

TBS’ has been looking to expand its original animation slate around hit American Dad!, which is currently in its 12th season after moving to the cable network from Fox. Final Space joins Tarantula, a dark comedy about the residents of a seedy hotel, which is scheduled to launch in 2017.

Rogers, who also sells apparel through Olan Rogers Supply and recently re-opened of his Nashville shop, The Soda Parlor, is repped by WME, which also reps Conaco. Rogers is additionally repped by the Gotham Group and attorney Ryan Nord. Sacks is repped by CAA, Rain Management Group and attorney Gregg Gellman. New Form is repped by CAA.
