Taylor Swift unveils new 'Beautiful Ghost' from the 'Cats' soundtrack

Swift's version of "Beautiful Ghosts" will appear over the end credits of the new film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic musical "Cats," which will open in cinemas on December 20.

Swift notably co-penned the lyrics of the ballad with the British theater maestro himself, with "Beautiful Ghosts" being the only original song specifically composed for the highly-anticipated live-action musical.

As the Guardian pointed out, this means that "Beautiful Ghosts" could be eligible for the "Best Song" categories of various prestigious film awards such as the Oscars.

"There was an ambition and an aspiration to have an original song in the movie. Just very much this understanding of like, 'Let's write the best song we can,'" Swift explained in a video discussing the making of the ballad.

Although the hitmaker will make a furry appearance as Bombalurina, "Beautiful Ghosts" will be sung in the film adaptation by English ballet dancer Francesca Hayward as the feline character of Victoria.

It will also be reprised briefly by Dame Judy Dench, who plays Old Deuteronomy.

"Cats," which was directed by Tom Hooper, will also feature some of the biggest names in film and music, including Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, Rebel Wilson, Jason Derulo and Sir Ian McKellen.

In other news, Swift is slated to perform a medley of her greatest hits at the American Music Awards on November 24, where she will notably be honored as "Artist of the Decade."

In a statement on her social media, the "You Need to Calm Down" vocalist called out her former manager Scooter Braun and Big Machine Label Group founder Scott Borchetta for "exercising tyrannical control" over her old catalogue.

"Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now said that I'm not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my music before I'm allowed to next year," she wrote.

She also revealed that a Netflix documentary about her life is currently in development, pointing out that both Borchetta and Braun have "declined the use of my older music or performance footage for this project, even though there is no mention of either of them or Big Machine Records anywhere in the film."
