Singer Hayley Kiyoko's debut album, Expectations, is out, and she's talking honestly about how some music industry execs didn't want her to sing about loving women so much.

In an interview with Refinery29, Hayley compared this homophobic criticism to the fact that nobody ever says Taylor Swift is "unoriginal" because she just sings about men.

From the interview:

"I’ve had several music industry execs say 'You’re doing another music video about girls? I literally looked at them and was like, um, yeah… Taylor Swift sings about men in every single song and video, and no one complains that she's unoriginal... I’m not over-sexualizing my music. I make out with women because I love women, not because I’m trying to be sexy. That’s not to turn heads-that’s my life."

Apparently some Taylor fans took offense at this - they felt Hayley was coming for their queen, despite the very valid criticism of the execs. Thankfully, Taylor came correct to defend Hayley on Tumblr:

"We should applaud artists who are brave enough to tell their honest romantic narrative through their art, and the fact is that I’ve never encountered homophobia and she has. It’s her right to call out anyone who has double standards about gay vs straight love interests."

So there you have it - Hayley's not wrong, and Taylor agrees. Now maybe the internet can chill!? JK JK JK, like that can happen!
