If 2020 is the year of coronavirus lockdown, 2021 is the year of COVID-19 vaccination. The topics nowadays have been revolving around getting vaccinated and the side effects of vaccination. Even stars like Takuya Kimura reported on his own Instagram that he has had his jabs.

“I’m vaccinated! Thank you! Stay safe!” Kimura updated last Thursday (15 July), along with a photo of him wearing a mask and making a peace sign.

The vaccination programme in Japan began in February this year, and is expected to complete by end of February next year. Similar to Singapore, vaccination priority has been given to the medical staff and the elderly. From 21 June, vaccination at companies and universities was implemented. Currently, Japan is administering two types of vaccines — Pfizer-Biontech and Moderna — both of which require two doses.

Japanese netizens who saw Kimura’s (often referred to as Kimutaku) Instagram post were generally happy with his update, with comments like:

“It’s good that influential people make such announcement on social media.”

“Is this a vaccination at the Johnny’s office?” (Kimura is under the talent agency Johnny & Associates.)

“I’ll be too nervous if I were the medical staff giving Kimutaku the injection.”

“This vaccination report is cool.”

“Is this the first dose or the second?”

“Even Kimutaku is vaccinated?”

“Are the side effects okay?”
