The Duchess of Sussex has brought a whole new dimension to royal style this year, making clear her love of clean lines, neutrals and trouser suits . Meghan, 37, has proved to be a master of diplomatic dressing and introduced us to little-known fashion labels, in addition to representing American and Canadian designers . The mum-to-be was born and raised in the US and spent around six years in Toronto, Canada, while filming ‘Suits’. The Duchess also paid tribute to her London, since moving here at the start of the year and has worn pieces from a number of British-based designers, including Stella McCartney, Erdem and Emilia Wickstead as well as accessories from Strathberry, Charlotte Elizabeth and DeMellier. Meghan’s also cemented her relationship with Givenchy’s creative director Clare Waight Keller , who created her wedding dress. Meghan turns to Keller for bespoke pieces, particularly for high-profile and important engagements. But, being a former Hollywood actress and a royal does mean that her wardrobe carries a hefty price tag. By all accounts, Meghan’s 2018 wardrobe has proved to be far more expensive than her stylish sister-in-law’s. Thanks to her wedding, royal tour of Australia and a wealth of formal events, the cost of the Duchess’ ensembles has crept into the thousands. Notable outfits from the year include the newlywed’s two bridal gowns and a particularly show-stopping Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress, which she wore in Australia. Consider this your annual refresher for everything that's happened in the fashion industry in 2018.
We often turn to the A-list pack in search of sartorial inspiration whether it’s a red carpet ensemble that’s made our Pinterest board or a street style pap shot that’s inspired our latest shopping list. Yet although armed with a celebrity stylist and wardrobe team, Hollywood’s biggest names don’t always hit the right fashion notes. This year, the near-naked trend reigned the headlines and although a major talking point, the likes of Bella Hadid and Rita Ora failed to make some of our best dressed lists as a consequence. 2018 has also been a time of experimentation for a bunch of celebrities with Amber Heard trialling a couture swimming cap on the red carpet to Lady Gaga making Shakespearean ruffles a thing. But if we had to give the award for this year’s most unusual wardrobe, actor Ezra Miller is a sure-fire winner thanks to that Moncler puffer dress . From Rihanna’s pope-inspired Met Gala ensemble to Robert Pattinson’s twist on the traditional tux, these were this year’s most unusual (and wonderfully weird) celebrity outfits. Creating a character with true impact is rare, which is why this list gives such a good insight into what kinds of things people want and expect from their fictional creations. It seems the answer is anthropomorphised creatures and people with amazing powers. The Yahoo Year in Review Methodology To develop the Yahoo Year in Review, our editors analyse Yahoo Search queries based on a number of factors, including absolute volume and growth from previous periods, to see which themes and trends bubble to the surface. Individuals and their Search queries always remain anonymous. This list is constructed without navigational searches – i.e. searches where the intention is clearly purely to navigate to a site rather than to discover information.
