Uma Thurman has been tapped to preside over this year’s Cannes Un Certain Regard jury, the festival announced Friday. The actress was a member of the main competition jury fronted by Robert De Niro in 2011. “In a career spanning more than 20 years, the American actress has made some daring choices and enjoyed taking risks… Whether playing crazy, sexy or dominant, the woman whose namesake is the Hindu goddess of beauty and light has definitely entered the pantheon of movie greats, with several of her scenes attaining cult status,” the festival said in a statement.

2017 Pirelli Calendar: Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman, and More Appear Unretouched

In 2016, Annie Leibovitz took the Pirelli calendar in a new direction. Instead of featuring top models in lingerie, as in many of the previous 50 editions, the famed photographer shot Serena Williams, Tavi Gevinson, Yoko Ono, and other “strong but natural women who have achieved something.” The tire company called it a “radical and inspirational departure from previous years” — and for 2017, the pinups of calendars past are still sitting on the sidelines. Released on Tuesday, the new edition of “The Cal” stars 14 famous actresses, including Nicole Kidman, Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, Jessica Chastain, Uma Thurman, Kate Winslet, Julianne Moore, Robin Wright, Rooney Mara, Léa Seydoux, Zhang Ziyi, and Charlotte Rampling.

The color made its debut on the fall/winter Chanel runway that same year and the black-red shade quickly became a must-have, taking the place of classic reds and baby pinks that had long been the manicure go-to.  Chanel Le Vernis in Vamp.

What's Troublesome About Uma Thurman's New Look

When Uma Thurman's name popped up in my inbox several times today I got excited that maybe she was the face of new beauty campaign. Instead, what I saw were emails from plastic surgeons, desperate to either slam the alleged cosmetic procedures she may or may not have had, or to discuss how other women can achieve a youthful look that looks more natural. No matter which side of the argument you fall on, the whole discourse bums me out.

Stop Saying Uma Thurman Pulled a Renée Zellweger

Photo: Whenever a celebrity reemerges into the public after some time away from the spotlight people are shocked to see that they’ve changed. Lately, Reneé Zellweger, Kate Gosselin, and others have sent Twitter and Facebook into a tizzy, with people observing that their faces drastically changed. On Monday night, the 44-year-old actress walked the red carpet in New York City at the premiere of her new miniseries The Slap. Thurman complemented her all-black outfit with her blond hair straight and pulled back, with a red lip. On Facebook, Kim Deyah (along with multiple news outlets including The Independent, New York Daily News, Glamour, USA Today, and more) accused the Kill Bill star of pulling a Zellweger.
