It’s no secret that ‘The Dark Tower’, one of Stephen King’s most ambitious works, is currently being adapted for the big screen. Starring Idris Elba as the iconic gunslinger Roland Deschain and Matthew McConnaughey as the Man in Black, ‘The Dark Tower’ is already causing plenty of buzz… and could prove to be a huge hit.
Matthew McConaughey has been spotted on the streets of New York while filming the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’. The production was filming in Madison Square Garden when one New Yorker snapped the Oscar-winning star in costume as Walter Padick - “the man in black” - a character King describes as “the embodiment of evil”. ‘The Dark Tower’ is filling out its cast with newcomer Tom Taylor. According to Variety, the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ has tapped newcomer Tom Taylor… in the role of Jake Chambers.
Author Stephen King has confirmed that a movie based on ‘The Dark Tower’ - his beloved series of sci-fi fantasy novels - is happening and that it will star Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba. An adaptation has been in the works for some time, but has gained serious traction over the past six months, with Sony hiring director Nikolaj Arcel and setting a 13 January 2017 release date. King’s tweet said: “It’s official: The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed,” quoting the opening line of the series’ first book, before a hashtag for #DarkTowerMovie and tagging the pair of actors.
Idris Elba has officially been linked to the lead role in a movie series adapted from a long-running series of novels… but no, it isn’t James Bond. Multiple sources report that Elba is the front runner to play Roland Deschain the Gunslinger in the long-awaited big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ at Sony. An unorthodox collision of western, high fantasy, science fiction and horror, ‘The Dark Tower’ follows the mysterious Deschain on his quest to the tower of the title.
Time for an obligatory ‘alright, alright, alright,’ as news breaks on what might be Matthew McConaughey’s next big role. And big is the operative word here.
