The somewhat unexpected news of a ‘Bad Boys’ TV spin-off, centred not on Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s central cop duo but Gabrielle Union’s character from ‘Bad Boys II,’ is just the latest of a seemingly endless list of big screen properties repurposed for the small screen in recent years. Later this month, Netflix will host Spike Lee’s ‘She’s Gotta Have It,’ a serialised, modern day reworking of the director’s 1986 feature debut. In production now is ‘Cobra Kai,’ a comedic but canonical sequel to the ‘Karate Kid’ movies reuniting actors Ralph Macchio and William Zabka. The list goes on. However, TV spin-offs of movies don’t necessarily have the best track record. While on rare occasions – most notably ‘MASH’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ – the small screen offshoot has managed to overtake the source material in the popular consciousness, there are many more instances when they’re almost instantly forgotten: remember the TV shows of ‘Blade,’ ‘Total Recall’ or ‘Minority Report?’ Anyone? That being said, now and then these TV takes on well-loved movies surprise everyone by proving to be entirely watchable, and in some cases genuinely great pieces of work in their own right. These twelve shows are among the ones that surprised us the most. One of the best attractions at Star Wars Celebration Europe takes place neither on a screen nor stage. It’s in a hall where organizers have arranged an up-close-and-personal look at the saga’s newest costumes and props. Like last year in Anaheim — where fans got a first good look at the wears of Rey and company months before The Force Awakens opened — this weekend’s London event features a cool exhibit of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story suits. EAs Peter O'Toole said when he received an honorary Oscar after eight unsuccessful nominations in the competitive categories, “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride, my foot.” O'Toole is the most-nominated actor never to win, but his eight nods aren’t even half as many as received by the man with the longest winless streak. These folks may not own an Oscar (yet… see: DiCarpio, Leonardo), but they’re all winners in our book. NOTE: Listed tallies do not include nominations for the 2016 Oscars, since winners are yet to be announced
On the surface, the Oscar-winning dark-comedy directors Joel and Ethan Coen and the Grammy-winning heavy-metal band Korn wouldn’t seem to have much in common, aside that fact that “Coen” kinda sounds like “Korn.” But dig deep into the Coen brothers’ filmography (which expands with this weekend’s Hail, Caesar!) and Korn’s discography and you can find some surprising thematic parallels. Think you’re a real Coen (and/or Korn) fan?
We typically think Meryl Streep when it comes to Oscar records, with the master thespian having amassed an incredible 19 nominations. But when it comes to actual wins, Streep’s not in the record books. Instead you’ll find names both famous (Walt Disney, John Williams, Katharine Hepburn) and less familiar (art director Cedric Gibbons, soundman Gary Rydstrom). Here are all the folks who have been awarded the most statuettes (we’re only counting “competitive” Oscars and not honorary/memorial recognition)

Though we should give thanks all year round, Thanksgiving reminds us all to take a moment to be thankful for what we have, and to remember those who aren’t quite as fortunate. Emmy Rossum, Niecy Nash, and Melissa Rivers are just a few of the celebs who are doing just that this holiday season.
The scariest kids on the big screen aren’t just limited to the horror genre. From the supernatural to the unintentionally eerie, take a look back at the creepiest kids in movies. Let’s just say that no one would feel safe babysitting these youngsters. Note: Teens such as Regan (Linda Blair) from ‘The Exorcist’ have been deemed too mature for this list.
We did it. We survived the grueling anticipation of waiting for three Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers over the past 11 months, and each delivered nerd chills in their own special ways (while still managing to keep us mostly in the dark when it comes to actual plot details). Now we’ll gruelingly anticipate the release of, you know, the actual movie on Dec. 18 — just 58 days away! But before we fully commit to that mental dogfight, let’s relive the 17 best moments from all three of the previews for Episode VII.
