More than a thousand people turned up at Hong Lim Park on Wednesday (20 December) to pay tribute to Kim Jong-hyun, the main vocalist of K-pop group SHINee, who died on Monday. The memorial event in Singapore for the South Korean star, better known as Jonghyun, was among several held in countries such as the Philippines, US, Mexico and Chile. SHINee’s fans who were gathering at the park were mostly teenage girls and women in their twenties.
K-pop fans are slamming NBC after its Chicago station aired a clip of Korean boy band BTS during a segment about the death of Kim Jong-hyun, the lead vocalist of another group, SHINee. During their morning news show on Tuesday (19 December), NBC Chicago reported Jonghyun’s death, but instead of showing a clip or photo of the SHINee member, they used footage of BTS on The Ellen Show.

Kim Jong-hyun, otherwise known as Jonghyun of South Korean pop group SHINee, has died after being found unconscious in an apartment on Monday (18 December). The 27-year-old was found unresponsive and rushed to Konkuk University Hospital, where he later died. Yonhap News reported that Jonghyun, SHINee’s main vocalist, was found at his residence in Cheongdam-dong in Seoul at 6pm Korean time, according a police briefing. SHINee was formed by SM Entertainment in 2008, with Jonghyun, Minho, Key, Taemin and Onew making up the group.

Tickets to the Singapore stop for ‘Music Bank’, one of Korea’s most popular music shows, will go on sale on 23 May at 10am, local promoter Launch Group announced on Tuesday (16 May). The star-studded show was previously announced to be stopping by Singapore as part of the 10th Music Bank World Tour on 4 August. To be held at the Suntec Convention Hall 601-604, the ‘Music Bank’ World Tour in Singapore will see a line-up of popular K-pop groups, CNBLUE, SHINee, Red Velvet, Mamamoo and BTS, who were recently confirmed to be attending the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.
