Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro may not have had the time to call his parents after news of his Oscar nominations in January, but he will definitely make time for them after his triumph on Sunday (Monday, 5 March, Singapore time) at the 90th Academy Awards. After bagging both Best Director and Best Picture for his romantic fantasy “The Shape of Water”, the filmmaker will be off to meet his parents to celebrate his first Oscar wins before heading home with his trophies. During the press interview at the end of the awards show, the 53-year-old also shared with Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore that he would have given a longer speech to thank more of his family members if he were given the chance.
Guillermo Del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” received 13 Oscar nominations. Guillermo del Toro’s latest film, “The Shape of Water”, may have 13 Oscar nods to its name, but even the experienced Mexican director had several anxious moments before the list of nominees was out. Then we started counting them, and we realised there were many, and it was a sense of huge relief, gratitude, joy… great emotions,” del Toro told Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore over the phone from Tokyo on Wednesday (31 January).
