The stars were out in force for the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York City on Monday night. Rita Ora and Millie Bobby Brown flew the flag for Britain, with Rita wearing an almost entirely see-through mesh dress by Jean Paul Gaultier. The 27-year-old completed her VMAs look with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a slicked-back hairdo. Meanwhile, 14-year-old Millie wore a black Rosie Assoulin look, with a crop top. Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez glittered in a metallic custom Versace dress and Kylie Jenner looked unusually conservative in a belted Tom Ford tuxedo dress. Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick made a special appearance to promote their new film. Blake continued her recent trouser suit trend in a Ralph & Russo number while Anna opted for an embellished mini dress, also by the British design duo. One of the most exclusive and glamorous nights for the fashion and Hollywood set is here — the 2017 Met Gala. The highly anticipated event is held annually on the first Monday in May to celebrate the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibit. Kate Winslet in Ralph Lauren at the Oscars. (Photo: Getty Images) There was this candid moment at the Academy Awards captured on camera: Best Actress nominees Brie Larson and Cate Blanchett were chatting with Best Supporting Actress nominee Kate Winslet. During the conversation, the Room star looked shocked, and then Blanchett started rubbing Winslet’s stomach, with Larson eventually throwing her arms around Winslet. This short exchange, shared on Vine and in photo sets on social media, resulted in a viral conspiracy theory: Kate Winslet is pregnant.
The actual Academy Awards was just the first stop for attendees on Sunday night, with celebrations taking place until the early morning hours. For some, the same dress for the multiple events couldn’t possibly suffice and they shed their red carpet look for something new. There are plenty of reasons for doing this: Alicia Vikander wanted to dance and her dusty yellow Louis Vuitton gown wasn’t really made for that; Jennifer Lawrence slipped into something more age appropriate; Daisy Ridley swapped a midi for a mini; and more. Tonight, the stars are turning out to the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica to find out who will go home tonight with a statue, a token of the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s favor. Of course we’re excited to see who wins, but let’s be real: seeing what the stars are wearing is almost just as exciting as the ceremony itself. Few things are better than when fashion and ballet collide, and such was the case at New York City Ballet’s Fall Gala on Wednesday night. The Cartier-sponsored event celebrated fashion designers who create costumes for the ballet, like Zuhair Murad, Peter Copping of Oscar de la Renta, Hanako Maeda of Adeam, Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony, and Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida of Marques’ Almeida. Many of those same designers sparkled on the red carpet, with Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Hudson, and Julia Restoin Roitfeld showing off their most theatrical, fashion-forward designs. In fact, SJP was so enthralled by Zuhair Murad’s smoky-gray, glittering gown when she saw it on the designer’s couture runway, she personally wrote him a letter asking to wear it to the event.
Jada Pinkett Smith outside of the Guy Laroche show in Paris. Photo: Getty Images Willow Smith might be the model in the family — she was just signed to The Society Management, Kendall Jenner’s agency — but it’s pretty obvious where she got her looks from: her mother. Jada Pinkett Smith hit up Paris Fashion Week in an eye-catching dress and France hasn’t seen this much glamour since the Kardashian family took over in February. The 44-year-old attended the Guy Laroche show, a burlap, denim, and army green dream, wearing a black and gold body-hugging dress.
I was really upset to not get an invite to Givenchy’s epic New York show, but I’m actually depressed that I didn’t attend Fromage Fashion Week, the most incredible meeting of my two loves in life: clothes and cheese. Held on Sunday ahead of Paris Fashion Week, the festival of fashion and gastronomy drew a crowd of around 500 as models hit red carpet-lined rues wearing dresses designed by Geoffrey Mignot. The women, including a beauty queen, some actresses, a journalist, and a few athletes, were clad in intricately made pieces with sheer, feathers, fur, fringe, beading, and other standout details. But the accessories were the best part as each catwalker carried her own wheel, chunk, or plate of cheese in place of a clutch or bag.
Oscars Red Carpet Face-Off: Red Dresses on Rosamund Pike, Dakota Johnson & More If you’re wondering why Behati Prinsloo was at the 2015 Oscars in the first place, it was to watch her husband Adam Levine perform. She wore an Armani Privé beaded column gown, giving Rosamund Pike a run for her money. But theGone Girlactress will make all the best dressed lists tonight thanks to her deep red, thread-embroidered custom Givenchy gown that took over 2,000 hours to make. Meanwhile, Solange Knowles loves taking risks, and did so with this long-sleeved turtleneck jumpsuit by Christian Siriano.
The stars couldn’t have aligned for a better cause last night as Lisa Kudrow, Katherine Heigl, Molly Ringwald, Sarah Hyland, and Yahoo Style cover stars Sophie Tweed Simmons and James Marsden were among those who attended the TrevorLIVE event at the Hollywood Paladium. The fete supported the important non-for-profit organization the Trevor Project, now in its sixteenth year, which provides much-needed help and crisis intervention to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth.
