Don't be a slave to actors, says Darkest Hour make-up artist Kazuhiro Tsuji

With Kazuhiro Tsuji’s desire to make special effects make-up “invisible”, it’s easy to see why British actor Gary Oldman specifically requested for the artist to transform him for the role of Winston Churchill in “Darkest Hour”, currently showing in cinemas around Singapore. In a wide-ranging phone interview with Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore on Thursday (1 March), Kazuhiro said that while he enjoyed working with Oldman, he felt special effects make-up artists should learn to respect their work and not be intimidated by actors.

Oscars throwback: This is what the Academy Awards looked like 20 years ago

The Oscars is undoubtedly the most star-studded event in the awards season calendar. This year stars including Saoirse Ronan, Daniel Kaluuya and Margot Robbie will grace the red carpet in their finest gowns and sharpest tuxedos before taking their seats to find out if they’ve won the coveted gong. All eyes will be on the dresses and suits, with the fashion pack ready in waiting to give their opinions about who nailed it in the clothing stakes. One thing’s for sure – the red carpet is going to look very different to the way it did 20 years ago. Back in 1998 we had Brad Pitt in red tinted spectacles, Drew Barrymore covered in body glitter and Demi Moore sporting a curly bob hairdo. And every second actress was wearing something beaded and had a miniature stole draped over the crook of her elbows. How things have changed. 10 of the most memorable Oscars gowns ever

Since its opening night 90 years ago, the Academy Awards red carpet has become one of the most style-watched events of its time. Who could forget Nicole Kidman in an off-beat chartreuse couture dress that dazzled onlookers in 1997 — or Halle Berry, who filled us with body-envy donning a sheer-panel floral gown back in 2002? Throughout the years, the Oscars has offered an abundance of striking fashion moments, but only handful of gowns truly stand the test of time. To celebrate Hollywood’s biggest night in film and fashion, we’re taking a look at 10 dresses we’ll never forget from the red carpet.
