MSNBC’s Cal Perry Called Out People on Air for Not Wearing Masks — and It Didn’t Go Well

During a Memorial Day live shot in Wisconsin on MSNBC, reporter Cal Perry got some instant feedback when he pointed out that seemingly no one around him at Lake Geneva was wearing a protective face mask.“Including the cameraman,” said a man who was walking by. He added that no one in Perry’s crew seemed to be wearing one.The sassy retort from the mask-less lake-goer took place while Perry spoke live to anchor Katy Tur and soon got pickup around Twitter. Donald Trump Jr. even retweeted a clip of the moment published by the Daily Caller, shown below. An MSNBC spokesperson acknowledged that the camera operator’s mask was slipped down around his neck at the time the interaction took place. The crew and Perry have been traveling the country in a set of RVs, socially distancing and avoiding airplanes and hotels while reporting on coronavirus precautions and businesses re-opening in various states. Perry elaborated on Twitter that numerous people traveled from Illinois for the long weekend specifically because masks are required in Illinois, but not Wisconsin. Also Read: Anderson Cooper: Donald Trump Jr. Attacks CNN Because He 'Wants His Dad to Love Him' (Video)Trump Jr. is no stranger to tweeting out pictures and clips that don’t show national news outlets in the best light. The president’s son added two emojis — a clown and a banana — to his tweet.Trump Jr. has tweeted the photo of Cooper before. MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski Rails Against Fox News ‘Puppets’ for ‘Endangering Lives’ With Coronavirus Coverage

MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski railed against Fox News and some of its hosts on “Morning Joe” Friday for being Trump “puppets” amid the coronavirus pandemic. She also used her Twitter account to repeatedly promote a “Daily Show” clip criticizing the network. In her monologue, she referenced Thursday night’s press briefing from President Donald Trump, during which he suggested that injecting disinfectant into human beings could kill the coronavirus, segueing into her Fox News critique: “We often try and sort of stay away from our colleagues in the business, but Fox News has several puppets for this president constantly going on the air, constantly repeating what he says verbatim, going after his quack ideas of hydroxychloroquine, trying to find quack people to put on the air to try and back up the president’s unimproved claims. Yesterday it might have been too much. It might have been too much to say that you should inject your body with disinfectant to try and get rid of the virus.”She went on, “There are some folks on Fox News that we usually stay away from who just take these ideas and run with them because it makes Trump happy, because they speak for him, because they speak on a daily basis and get their message straight.”Also Read: Fox News' John Roberts Shoots Down Coronavirus Conspiracy Theorists: 'There Is NO Vaccine'Brzezinski accused some hosts on the network of working “for” Trump in spite of her hope that “Fox News will do their best.”On Twitter, she promoted a “Daily Show” clip that showed Fox News’ Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs downplaying media coverage of the virus in recent weeks, writing a plea for her followers to share the video. Brzezinski then posted the same clip again and used the hashtag PawnHannity. Posting negative nicknames is a tactic often employed by Trump himself. Hannity himself has responded to the clip featured in the “Daily Show” montage, which shows him saying the virus response is a “hoax.” He told Newsweek earlier this month, “I never called it a ‘hoax.’ I said it was a hoax for them to be using it as a bludgeon on Trump.”She said, “we want the word to get out that there are some hosts and (of course the WH) who may been endangering lives from the beginning.”Watch the “Daily Show” clip, which she also promoted right on the show, below.Hi Twitter friends could you please retweet this and ask others to retweet as well — we want the word to get out that there are some hosts and (of course the WH) who may been endangering lives from the beginning. President Donald Trump actually tuned into MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Tuesday — but soon discovered that host (and former Trump backer) Joe Scarborough has been continuing weeks-long criticism of the president’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.“Watched the first 5 minutes of poorly rated Morning Psycho on MSDNC just to see if he is as ‘nuts’ as people are saying. He’s worse. Such hatred and contempt!” the president tweeted, with no evidence to back up his claim about the show’s viewership. “I used to do his show all the time before the 2016 election, then cut him off. Wasn’t worth the effort, his mind is shot!”He went on, taking aim at the media more broadly: “It is amazing that I became President of the United States with such a totally corrupt and dishonest Lamestream Media going after me all day, and all night. Either I’m really good, far better than the Fake News wants to admit, or they don’t have nearly the power as once thought!”Also Read: Joe Scarborough's Tells Trump to Stop Holding Press Conferences: 'Every Night He Goes Out and Damages Himself' (Video)Finally, Trump once again touted the viewership of his coronavirus briefings, comparing them to the “Bachelor” finale and “Monday Night Football”before insisting he doesn’t “care” about ratings as much as he cares about the health oft he American people. For weeks, Scarborough has been criticizing those briefings in particular. On Monday, he advised Trump to stop doing them altogether arguing that they were not helpful to the goal of promoting public health — and also gave Democrats material to use against Trump in his bid for re-election.On Tuesday’s show, the “Morning Joe” hosts reacted to Trump’s tweet in real time. Joe Scarborough to Rush Limbaugh: Go ‘Bag Groceries’ if You Want to Restart the Economy

On Friday’s “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough offered some on-air advice to conservative radio scion Rush Limbaugh, who’s been vocal about his doubts regarding the seriousness of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic: Bag groceries if you want to restart the economy. On multiple occasions, Limbaugh has cast doubt on the number of coronavirus deaths, saying on Tuesday “there may be some politics involved” in what he thought were overinflated numbers. Public health experts, of course, believe the opposite: There are more deaths than are being reported, but a lack of access to testing means some coronavirus-related deaths that should be counted are not. On Thursday, Limbaugh suggested that public health experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci, who sits on the White House’s coronavirus task force, are “Hillary Clinton sympathizers” who want to “get rid” of President Donald Trump. In late February, Limbaugh called the coronavirus “the common cold” that was “being weaponized as yet another element to bring down Donald Trump.”Also Read: White House to Conduct Coronavirus Tests on All Journalists Covering Daily Briefing“All of these Trump talking heads that are saying we should reopen the economy now, that Fauci — that it’s all a hoax? You can do it today.”Limbaugh was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in February by Trump, just one day after revealing his diagnosis of advanced lung cancer. Joe Scarborough Questions Why Trump Held ‘Nothing’ Coronavirus Press Conference: ‘The Idiots Have Been Exposed’

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough didn’t hold back Monday morning when criticized not only President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic but the coverage he’s been getting from friendly media outlets, too. In fact, according to Scarborough, those outlets are “stupid.”“If you break down what the president said — a lot of people have been analyzing it over the night — nothing new, nothing noteworthy,” the “Morning Joe” host said of Trump’s Sunday evening press conference where he touted an unproven drug as a cure and refusing to let his medical expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, talk about it during a press conference. “This is the death of expertise; this is when the idiots have been exposed for who they are in the times of America’s greatest need,” Scarborough added.“What did America get out of cable news networks for running a two-hour, rambling press conference where [Trump] says the same thing?” he asked his co-host and wife Mika Brzezinski. The duo particularly took issue with Trump endorsing the drug hydroxychloroquine and wasting Fauci’s and Dr. Deborah Birx’s time, both of which may cost lives. Also Read: Millions of People Get Coronavirus Updates From Fox News - This Lawsuit Says the Network Gave Them False InformationLater in the show, Scarborough turned on media “hacks” who support Trump at every turn in his tone: “Now, a lot of the same hacks that were saying that this was overblown, a lot of those same hacks are now actually trying to turn it around and say it was the media’s fault for not underlining the concerns about it.”He wasn’t done there.“Here’s the deal,” he went on. “You’re stupid. I know you’re stupid. If you’re being a hack for Donald Trump on the coronavirus, I know you’re stupid, so maybe you think other people are stupid. They’re not as dumb as you because you can’t argue that the press was overblowing it for two months and then when you find out that the press wasn’t overblowing it — that more people are going to probably die from this than died in 9/11, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, possibly altogether, if you believe White House numbers — you can’t then say, after two months of saying that the media was overblowing it, you can’t then turn around and say, ‘Oh, the media, they were asleep at the switch.'”Watch the former GOP representative’s recap of the situation from the top of Monday’s show, above.Read original story Joe Scarborough Questions Why Trump Held ‘Nothing’ Coronavirus Press Conference: ‘The Idiots Have Been Exposed’ At TheWrap

People are dying and it’s sick, sick that he is doing this,” said MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough as he read his audience Trump’s new tweets, which blamed the media for concerns over the speed of the virus.“The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant. Tucker Carlson: Chris Matthews’ Sin Was ‘Being Old and Unfashionable’ (Video)

Journalists at MSNBC paid tribute to colleague Chris Matthews after his abrupt on-air resignation Monday night, and so too did Fox News’ Tucker Carlson … in his own way.“Boy, you never thought you’d see that happen. I’ve known Chris Matthews very well since 1995 when I started appearing on his show regularly. He’s everything you think he is. Groveling in the end couldn’t save him; it never does. I would say his real sin, of course, was being old and unfashionable. That’s why they’re making him leave,” Carlson said on his show Monday night.Matthews, who was identified Friday by reporter Laura Bassett as the once-unnamed “famous broadcast journalist” she had accused in a 2017 piece of making inappropriate comments to her when she was a guest on his show, quit Monday. In recent days, the “Hardball” veteran issued an apology to Bernie Sanders and his voters for comparing a Sanders caucus win to a Nazi victory. Also Read: Mika Brzezinski on Chris Matthews Resignation: I Understand 'Cancel Culture' But Is There a 'Better Way'?In his commentary, Carlson then asked why Joy Reid, another MSNBC host, was still on the air after her 2018 scandal involving old blog posts. Similarly, he brought up other NBC News officials and hosts who have had scandals associated with their names.“As long as we’re making people leave for moral crimes, you gotta wonder why is Joy Reid still on the air, who lied and got the FBI implicated in her lie? In an essay published on Friday in GQ, former HuffPost reporter Laura Bassett revealed that the unnamed “famous broadcast journalist” she had accused in a 2017 piece of making inappropriate comments to her when she was a guest on his show was MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.“In 2017, I wrote a personal essay about a much older, married cable news host who inappropriately flirted with me in the makeup room a few times before we went live on his show, making me noticeably uncomfortable on air. I was afraid to name him at the time for fear of retaliation from the network; I’m not anymore. It was Chris Matthews,” Bassett, now a freelance journalist, wrote in GQ. (A representative for MSNBC did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.)Bassett said that in 2016, when she was brought on as a guest on Matthews’s show to discuss sexual assault allegations against Donald Trump, she was sitting in a makeup chair when Matthews came over and said to her, “Why haven’t I fallen in love with you yet?”Also Read: MSNBC's Chris Matthews Apologizes to Bernie Sanders for Comparing His Caucus Win to Nazi Victory“When I laughed nervously and said nothing, he followed up to the makeup artist. ‘Keep putting makeup on her, I’ll fall in love with her,'” Bassett recalled in her GQ piece. When she was brought back on the show at another time, Bassett said Matthews “complimented the red dress” she was wearing and asked her, “You going out tonight?”“I said I didn’t know, and he said — again to the makeup artist — ‘Make sure you wipe this off her face after the show. We don’t make her up so some guy at a bar can look at her like this,'” Bassett wrote. While Bassett said she didn’t think Matthews’s behavior rose “to the level of illegal sexual harassment,” she wrote that his behavior “undermined [her] ability to do [her] job well” — a phrase she also used in her original 2017 HuffPost piece. This isn’t the first time Matthews has been accused of being inappropriate with women. In what has become something of a tradition at Democratic primary events, protesters interrupted Joe Biden as the former vice president was about to deliver his closing remarks at the Las Vegas Democratic debate on Wednesday night. The protesters began shouting from the back of the room just after Biden was invited to speak. It was difficult to make out precisely what they were chanting while watching the debate on television, but early on, one protester could be heard saying “You deported 3 million people!,” a frequent criticism of the Obama administration’s immigration policies.Toward the end of the demonstration, which lasted around a minute, other members of the audience began cheering; it was not entirely clear if the cheering was in support of the protest or to drown it out. Biden began his closing remarks after the protesters were escorted out of the auditorium. Also Read: Elizabeth Warren Rips Michael Bloomberg Over His Response to Sexual Harassment NDAsMoments later, the activist wing of Immigrants-rights organization RAICES claimed credit for the demonstration. “We are interrupting @JoeBiden at the DemDebate chanting DontLookAway and NoKidsInCages. Protestors interrupted him during the third round of Democratic debates in September 2018, just as the former Delaware senator was preparing to answer a question about how he has responded to professional setbacks and resilience. In that instance, the chanting was audible but not clearly identifiable due to the location of the protesters and fact they weren’t chanting in unison, but activist Jess Davidson, who attended the debate, said they were shouting, “We are DACA recipients. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough fact-checked statements from a Davos press conference by President Trump on Wednesday morning and didn’t hide his exasperation.Scarborough, a former GOP congressman, pointed out that the Washington Post has now chronicled over 16,000 “false or misleading claims” from the president since he took office.“He says he makes great deals. He never released the actual transcript. That’s a lie.”From there, Scarborough contrasted Trump’s insistence that he and the Ukrainian president both agree the call was a “perfect conversation” with the latest polling that shows 51% of Americans think the Senate should remove the president for office because of the call.In December, the House impeached Trump on charges that he abused the power of his office and obstructed Congress. The House voted on two articles of impeachment, drafted by the House Judiciary Committee, which charged the president with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Also Read: Joe Scarborough: GOP Won't Come on 'Morning Joe' to Talk Debt Unless 'Democrats Are in the White House'For abuse of power, the House voted 230-197; for obstruction of Congress, the House voted 229-198. The votes concluded a months-long impeachment inquiry process into Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, which sought to determine whether he solicited foreign power for his own political gain. Rev Al Sharpton Questions Religious Conservatives Supporting Trump: Are You ‘Selling Your Soul for Some Judicial Appointments?’

Rev. Al Sharpton defended Christianity Today for its editorial supporting President Trump’s removal from office on Monday morning, while also criticizing the president’s evangelical supporters. On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Sharpton said that he has talked with Christianity Today editor in chief Mark Galli, who maintains that the editorial came from a political — not a moral — perspective. That, Sharpton said, “exposes” evangelical leaders for choosing politics over what is morally right. Also Read: Christianity Today Founder Billy Graham Would Be 'Disappointed' by Pro-Impeachment Editorial, Son Says“I think there’s a scripture that said, ‘What profits a man to gain the world and lose his own soul?'” he said, noting that Galli is actually challenging them by asking: ‘Are you bargaining and selling your soul for some judicial appointments and some other things that the right wants but you’ve given up the soul of the church?'”Sharpton praised the editorial for exposing evangelicals’ priorities, but elsewhere, it hasn’t been receiving such warm reception. Following the magazine’s release of the “Trump Should Be Removed From Office” piece, the son of late founder Billy Graham tweeted on Friday that he’d be “disappointed” to know about it. Trump also lashed out at the publication Friday morning. Also Read: That Time Trump Called for George W Bush's Impeachment - and Dismissed Bill Clinton's as 'Nonsense' (Video)The president wrote, “A far left magazine, or very “progressive,” as some would call it, which has been doing poorly and hasn’t been involved with the Billy Graham family for many years, Christianity Today, knows nothing about reading a perfect transcript of a routine phone call and would rather…..”He continued, “….have a Radical Left nonbeliever, who wants to take your religion & your guns, than Donald Trump as your President. No President has done more for the Evangelical community, and it’s not even close. You’ll not get anything from those Dems on stage. ‘Morning Joe’ Rails Against Republicans ‘Repeating Putin Talking Points’

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” started the week by picking up where NBC’s “Meet the Press” left off on Sunday: Hammering GOP Sen. John Kennedy — and by extension, some of his Republican colleagues — for “repeating Putin talking points,” specifically by reiterating claims of Ukrainian interference in the 2016 election. On Sunday, Kennedy accused former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko of “actively” working for Hillary Clinton during her 2016 campaign against President Trump. Also Read: 'Morning Joe': GOP Support of Ukraine Conspiracy Theory Is Like 'Living in an Alternate Universe'Moderator Chuck Todd pushed back then, saying, “You realize the only other person selling this argument outside of the United States is this man, Vladimir Putin. This is what he said on November 20: ‘Thank God nobody is accusing us anymore of interfering in U.S. elections. Now they’re accusing Ukraine. Well, let them sort this out among themselves.’ You just accused a former president of Ukraine. You’ve done exactly what the Russian operation is trying to get American politicians to do. Are you at all concerned that you’ve been duped?”Throughout Monday’s “Morning Joe,” the cable panelists made the same points, criticizing Republicans who fall in line to defend Trump. (That has been a months-long theme of the show, which is hosted by former GOP Rep. Joe Scarborough.)Also Read: 'Morning Joe' Accuses Pro-Trump Republicans of 'Shamelessness' After Impeachment Inquiry Vote“What about these Republicans, these so-called ‘conservatives?'” asked Scarborough, referencing his time in office. “People who stood by me as we fought against Russian influence and the spread of communism and fought for conservative values?”He slammed them for “going on national television, repeating Putin talking points. The United States Senate even gotta a warning from the intel agencies — Donald Trump’s intel agencies — that this is propaganda that Vladimir Putin has been trying to push for the past several years.”Watch the video above.Read original story ‘Morning Joe’ Rails Against Republicans ‘Repeating Putin Talking Points’ At TheWrap

Andrew Yang: I Will Go on MSNBC ‘After They Apologize’ for Bad Coverage of My Campaign

Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang has given thumbs down to MSNBC, saying that it has not treated his campaign as they do other candidates, and he won’t appear on the network until they apologize.“Was asked to appear on @msnbc this weekend — and told them that I’d be happy to after they apologize on-air, discuss and include our campaign consistent with our polling, and allow surrogates from our campaign as they do other candidates’. They think we need them. We don’t,” Yang tweeted Saturday.“They’ve omitted me from their graphics 12+ times, called me John Yang on air, and given me a fraction of the speaking time over 2 debates despite my polling higher than other candidates on stage,” he continued. “At some point you have to call it.”Also Read: Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang Responds to New 'SNL' Cast Member Bowen Yang's Impression (Video)Yang added, “The whole time we have gotten stronger. Joe Scarborough: Declaring the New ‘Worst Day’ in Trump’s Presidency Is Getting Old (Video)

Joe Scarborough recapped the events of the previous night on Wednesday’s “Morning Joe” with a touch of fatigue: “It gets old saying, ‘This was the worst day of the Trump presidency.'”“I don’t know that this was the worst day of the Trump presidency,” the MSNBC co-host admitted, but cited “three huge strikes” that made Tuesday a rough one for President Trump. These were made up of the “absolutely devastating” testimony of U.S. ambassador to the E.U., Gordon Sondland, before the House committees leading the impeachment probe; “losing the reddest of red states” in Tuesday’s state elections; and “watching all of the red bleed out of Virginia” as Democrats took control of the legislature for the first time in decades, “so now it is a completely blue state.”Also Read: 'Morning Joe' Overwhelmed After 'One of the Most Significant News Days' in Trump PresidencyScarborough and co-host Willie Geist pointed out for “Morning Joe” viewers that Trump made a voting plea on behalf of Virginia Republicans and backed GOP Kentucky governor Matt Bevin, who as of Wednesday morning, appeared to have lost to Democratic challenger Andy Beshear.Bevin, Geist said, was “a very unpopular governor,” but “the entire impetus of his campaign was he was like Donald Trump. He attached himself at the hip to Donald Trump.”Also Read: Colbert Gloats a Tiny Bit Over Trump Official Who Reversed His Impeachment Inquiry Testimony (Video)He continued, “Donald Trump can’t run away from this.
