French-American actor Timothée Chalamet is causing a bit of a sartorial stir. The 23-year-old has established himself on the silver screen in the past few years with hits including ‘Call me by Your Name’, ‘Interstellar’ and ‘Ladybird’. He’s also starring in the upcoming, reprised version of ‘Little Women’ starring Emma Watson, Laura Dern and Saorise Ronan. But, his red carpet game is equally strong. Chalamet has enjoyed one menswear hit after another with a plethora of big-name brands, including McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Haider Ackermann clambering to dress him. The New York-born actor’s eclectic wardrobe is reminiscent of Harry Style’s richly-embroidered, coloured and printed suit collection. You’d think that in Milan and Paris, the men’s runways would mimic the streets: hunky guys dressed to the nines in immaculately fitted suits, slicked back hair, and $1,000 leather loafers (or, the Gucci furry shoes that are still a hit). Well, not this season. For the men’s fall 2016 shows, which culminated last night in Paris, some designers showed avant-grade fashion that incorporated recurring themes usually seen on women, like plunging necklines, skin-tight tops, and, perhaps worst of all, dresses.
