Vilma Santos has been declared Best Actress at the recently concluded Dhaka International Film Festival for her moving portrayal of a bit player in "Ekstra."

The socio-realist drama-comedy directed by Jeffrey Jeturian was a blockbuster at the 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival in 2013. It was also shown at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

According to Dhaka Tribune, the prestigious film festival had no Best Film Award this year. No movie from Bangladesh, home country of the event, got any of the 20 awards in the various categories.

Meanwhile, Iran received six recognitions: Best Director (Parviz Shahbazi for "Trapped"), Best Actor (Levon Hafevan for "Parviz"), Badal Rahman Award for the Best Children Film ("The Rooster Trademark Paper"), and two Special Mention awards for the Short and Independent Films categories.
