Forward-looking showbiz forces anticipate an exciting awards season as Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos are expected to vie for top acting honors next year for their respective independent movies, “Ang Kwento ni Mabuti” and “Ekstra.”
Despite an enduring rivalry that divides Noranians and Vilmanians over the past decades, Nora sees nothing wrong when award-giving bodies pit her against her professional arch-rival, Vilma.
“Mas makakabuti para sa industriya ang ganyan [rivalry]. Katulad noong araw na masigla. Para maging masigla naman muli ang industriya,” she told the press at the Urian Awards night where she won her seventh Manunuri Best Actress--one trophy shy of Vilma, the most-awarded actress in Urian with eight Best Actress trophies.

While she enjoys first-move advantage in the indie scene through critically-acclaimed “Thy Womb,” Nora believes independent cinema, though not as lucrative as mainstream movies, is too big for everyone—including Vilma, who’s set to make her indie debut via the Cinemalaya full-length film “Ekstra” this July.
Nora told Yahoo! Philippines OMG!: “Mas masaya, mas maganda, mas mabuti 'yon. Para at least nakakahikayat tayo ng ibang mga artista na gumawa ng mga indie film na maganda naman talaga e.”
Meanwhile Nora welcomes up-and-coming artists who look up to her. “Masaya dahil sa paggawa ko ng isang magandang pelikula, nakakapagbigay tayo ng inspirasyon sa mga kapwa natin artista.”
Message to impersonators
What does Nora want to tell her impersonator and “Wowowillie” co-host Ate Gay, who reports say, has become too full of himself?
“Wag lang sosobrahan siguro. Kung gagayahin nila ako, huwag masyadong sobra. Minsan nakakaoffend na rin,” Nora, or Ate Guy to showbiz insiders, replies.
She added that she has called the attention of other impersonators who go overboard in trying to mimic her: “Minsan nagre-react din ako kapag 'yung nasosobrahan na ginagaya nila ako. Kasi parang, 'Ano ba naman 'yan? Hindi naman ako ganyan.'"
“Kaya halimbawa, kung gagaya din naman sila, 'yung tama lang. Kung gusto nilang magpatawa, 'yung tama lang para makapagpatawa sa tao.”
