Angry Birds building set released at the Toy Fair in New York
The popular smartphone application Angry Birds continues its expansion into the real world with the launch of an official Angry Birds building set at the Toy Fair in New York.
One of the major toy trends is in the development of real-world toys that are related to popular smartphone games or popular internet sites and some of the most popular of toys in this category are related to the smartphone game Angry Birds.
Angry Birds, which involves firing birds from a catapult into structures in order to knock them down, has spawned numerous toy tie-ins ranging from costumes to plush versions of the Angry Birds themselves.
The latest official Angry Birds merchandise is a range of building sets which will be unveiled by construction toy brand K'NEX at the Toy Fair in New York, which runs Feburary 12-15.
The officially licensed K'NEX building sets allows fans of the Angry Birds game to re-build their favorite characters in the real world.
The three building sets being unveiled by K'NEX are as follows:
- Angry Birds Intro Assortment Building Set which includes four different sets of characters from the game, a launcher and an egg accessory, retailing for around $10.99.
- Angry Birds Danger Above Building Set is a 170-piece building set that allows Angry Birds fans to build a structure and then knock it down with the included Angry Birds characters, retailing for around $29.99.
- Angry Birds T Minus Never Building Set is similar to the Danger Above set but is based on the T Minus Never version of the Angry Birds game. The set includes two birds, three pigs and a ‘ham acessory' and retails for around $29.99.
All three K'NEX Angry Birds sets will be available in autumn 2012.
Other toys being launched at the show that are related to popular games or internet sites include a 999-piece puzzle from company All Things Equal featuring the most popular images from the comedy image site Awkward Family Photos.
