Starring Alicia Vikander as iconic video game character, Lara Croft, the upcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot has just released its first official images over at Vanity Fair. Clearly, ‘Tomb Raider’ is channelling the aesthetics of the recent 2013 video game, with a younger Lara croft appearing in far more survivalistic gear than her earlier counterpart.
Having broken through with sci-fi hit ‘Ex Machina,’ with roles in ‘Jason Bourne’ and ‘The Man From UNCLE’ under her belt, and ‘Tomb Raider’ in production, Alicia Vikander seems well on her way to becoming something of a genre icon – and this latest bit of casting news will surely only help her on her way. Deadline report that Vikander, winner of the 2016 Best Supporting Actress Oscar for ‘The Danish Girl,’ is in talks to star in ‘Freakshift,’ a new original action-horror movie from British writer-director Ben Wheatley. It sounds like a fairly ambitious project which could mark a significant change in gear for Wheatley.

Tomb Raider‘s Lara Croft, the puzzle-solving, weapons-wielding archeologist with an uncanny knack for falling into supernatural adventures, turns 20 this year. To mark the auspicious anniversary, game publisher Square Enix is releasing a tricked-out updated version of the last Tomb Raider installment, Rise of the Tomb Raider, on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander, who grew up a fan of the game, will be suiting up for a film reboot arriving in 2018.
