Sylvia Chang won't think too much about winning awards

16 Mar – Although she has been nominated in three individual categories at the upcoming Hong Kong Film Awards, actress Sylvia Chang stated that she will not think too much about her chance at winning.

As reported on Mingpao, the Taiwanese filmmaker who appeared at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards' event recently to accept her Best Director accolade for her work in "Love Education", stated that a filmmaker should always present their best work, and that winning an award is just a bonus.

Sylvia, who is nominated in the Best Actress category (in addition to Best Director, and Best Screenwriter category) will be facing tough competition from Teresa Mo, Zhou Xun, Chrissie Chau, and Stephy Tang - the latter who was awarded Best Actress by the same Film Critics Society.

On the other hand, when asked of her opinion regarding Jackie Chan's previous view that there is no distinction between a Hong Kong movie and a mainland production, Sylvia said that each and every movie has its own cultural characteristics even if they are all Chinese.

"For example, I am from Taiwan. So culturally, my movies have the essence of being from Taiwan," she said.
