Stallone has experimented with different shades in recent months. Earlier this week, he was pictured with a significantly darker look, while last November his hair was dark brown with hints of grey.

He’s not the only male celebrity ditching the hair dye. George Clooney, 58, appeared to have gone almost entirely silver when pictured at the Nordic Business Forum in Helsinki, Finland in October last year.

The likes of Paul Hollywood, Pierce Brosnan, and John Slattery also work silvery locks.

There has also been a trend among female celebrities for ditching hair dye in favour of grey locks – from Diane Keaton to Helen Mirren. Earlier this year, Gwyneth Paltrow showed off grey roots with pride at the Golden Globes.

Alexandra Grant, the girlfriend of Keanu Reeves, ditched hair dye after concerns over the “toxicity of the dyes”.

Overall, the hair colourants market has fallen in recent years, declining in value by 2% in 2018 according to Mintel – with permanent colourants showing the biggest decline, which is said to be a sign of “the trend towards ageing naturally”, according to Alex Fisher, Associate Director for Beauty & Personal Care at Mintel.
