Sylvester Stallone Apologises For Creed ‘Snub’

It looks as though Stallone has decided to thank his ‘Creed’ director and co-star after all…

After picking up a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor, the 68-year-old actor soon came under fire – not because fans thought he wasn’t worthy of the gong, but because he neglected to thank director Ryan Coogler or the real star, Michael B. Jordan.

But now he’s decided to put things right after coming under fire from Samuel L. Jackson.

Taking to the stage to pick up the award, Stallone thanked just a handful of people, including his wife and children, his agent and even his ‘best friend’ Rocky Balboa… and while he may have been caught up in the moment, he didn’t quite get round to thanking those who worked on the film alongside him.

And that didn’t go unnoticed.

“#waitwaitwait, Ryan Coogler & Michael B Jordan, Thanks for acting with me!!!” said Samuel L. Jackson via Twitter. “Loved Sly but…”

Stallone apparently returned to the stage during a commercial break in order to thank director Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan as well as co-star Tessa Thompson… but it was just a little too late for the TV audience.

So he’s since taken to Twitter to set the record straight.

“Samuel Jackson is upset that I foolishly forgot to mention the brilliant Ryan Coogler and [Michael B. Jordan],” Stallone said via Twitter. “He is right I owe them everything.”

Despite this rather embarrassing gaff, it was a pretty spectacular night for Stallone. After all, it marked his first Golden Globe and first nomination since picking up two for the original ‘Rocky’ film back in 1977.

And he explained to reporters backstage quite how shocked he was to receive the award.

“I didn’t expect it at all, and I don’t remember a standing ovation,” he said. “I was in shock. Was there really? You’re kidding. So I have to get a TiVo. I did not expect to win at all. God, I was promising myself that I would be very aware the whole time. It proves I’m not aware. So I got very caught up in emotion. Thank you very much.”

‘Creed’ heads to cinemas on 15 January 2016.
