Swatch’s first Destination watch for Singapore, Singapore Tale, features some of the island’s most iconic landmarks, symbols and foods. Designed by local artist and illustrator Tan Zi Ni, or known as Messymsxi on Instagram, the collaboration took almost a year to fulfil.

“I thought it would be interesting to tie in the Peranakan culture to my design, alongside food and fruits and iconic attractions in Singapore,” Zi Ni shared at the recent press launch. The watch features recognisable tourist landmarks such as the Singapore Flyer, Gardens by The Bay and local eats like chicken rice and the king of fruits, durian.

The watch also features traditional ice-cream carts and the well-loved dragon-shaped playgrounds reminiscent of the childhood of many locals alike. Each icon on the watch is designed like an emblem, inspired by vintage Peranakan tiles which adorned the local shophouses in the 1970s.

Brand Manager for Swatch, Alex Liu shared that while the collaboration took over a year, he was pleased with the outcome of the result; the striking white and blue colour combo has received positive remarks and sales for the design have been encouraging in stores.

We reckon you should chope this at your nearest Swatch store before it’s too late as there’s only a limited print for this Singapore design.
