The motorcycle man says, “I like your legs”. Interrupted by the roar of a “chicken bus” engine, Andres, aka the motorcycle man, continues to pass judgment about my legs as I attempt to haggle down the price of an ancient Kawasaki KLR 650 motorcycle with no paperwork and dangerously bald tyres. The words Guate, Guate, Guate drift past as young men holler to locals from the open doors of bright yellow buses once used to take children to school somewhere in America now bound for the capital, Guatemala City.
Somehow you just knew that Kurt Russell would be the type of guy’s guy who’d punch your arm as a greeting. On last night’s Late Late Show with James Corden , Russell took the gag and ran with it, putting Corden through some increasingly bruising encounters. Ok, so the bit’s not exactly unpredictable, particularly the end, but Russell and Corden really go for broke. Well done. Check it out above. Later in the show, Russell continued being a good sport as fellow guest Thomas…

Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves, and all that. This week marks the 80th birthday of the National Maritime Museum, that guardian of Britain’s seafaring past – a cannon’s shot from the River Thames in leafy Greenwich. What happened: In these early years of the 21st century, the Seychelles is a holiday paradise, beloved of honeymooners and fans of spectacular sunsets.
A toddler born with three legs -- because body parts of a twin had grown inside her -- was returning home to Bangladesh Friday after complex and rare surgery in Australia enabled her to walk and run, her doctor said. A team of surgeons spent several months mapping out a procedure to reconstruct her anatomy. "A twin had grown out of her pelvis but the twin was only part of a twin... The problem is there's no rulebookfor this because she's a very unique individual so you have to try and work out what was where," Chris Kimber, the paediatric surgery head at Monash Children's Hospital, told AFP.

New US research suggests that a combination of exercise and good levels of vitamin D could be an effective way of reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease such as heart attacks and strokes. Although exercise and sufficient levels of vitamin D have already been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, the team wanted to look at what effect a combination of the two might have on heart health. Using participants' self-reports, the team classified exercise levels as adequate, intermediate or poor and measured levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the blood to asses vitamin D levels.

The director reckons that he was surprised by the anger that the all-female version caused among fans of the original.
Earlier this month, David Exell became the oldest Briton to ever complete the Marathon des Sables, a six-day, 156 mile ultra-marathon in the Sahara Desert. The Marathon des Sables combines an alarming degree of hardship, living conditions that are far worse than even the most rudimentary camping trip, and brutal routes with ridiculously steep jebels. It's an event that deserves the utmost respect – but the message I came away with is that despite its infamous reputation (Sir Ranulph Fiennes called it "more hellish than hell"), the Marathon des Sables is not impossible to complete.
Women Help Women, a Netherlands-based organisation, already helps women around the world to take legal abortion pills at home. Classic John Candy comedy ‘The Great Outdoors’ is getting the remake treatment. Variety reports that it will be comedian Kevin Hart who will be taking on the lead role for Universal, as well as producing the movie. No word yet on co-stars or a director. The original movie was released in 1988, penned by John Hughes and directed by Howard Deutch, who directed other Hughes-written movies ‘Pretty In Pink’ and ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’. It followed Candy’s Chet Ripley as his holiday in Wisconsin is gate-crashed by his crass and wealthy brother-in-law Roman, played by Dan Aykroyd. ...
It was the distinctive smell of burning fabric that gave me the first inkling something was wrong. Earphones in, I was listening to The Guilty Feminist - a podcast fronted by comedian Deborah Frances-White, which explores the “noble goals” of twenty-first century feminists, and the “hypocrisies and insecurities which undermine them” - albeit with a lot of jokes thrown in. One of her guests, the stand-up Cal Wilson was recounting sitting in a coffee shop with her boyfriend and explaining to him that, “like a fridge humming in the background”, a woman in a public place is always aware, at least on the periphery of her consciousness, that she is vulnerable - a potential target. People either walked past or stood around bemused.
