Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced they will be stepping down as seniors royals in a bid to create “progressive new roles” for themselves.

The news was released on their Instagram page and new website, a move that will see them become “financially independent” from the Royal Family.

Although their way of working is new, one company they’ve enlisted to help them is a blast from the past.

The website development company behind the new Sussex Royal website was the same company Meghan Markle used to create her once successful lifestyle blog, The Tig.

The Tig, which was once a lifestyle destination for “the discerning palate”, was described by the Duchess of Sussex as a place for “those with a hunger for food, travel, fashion & beauty”.

Meghan Markle re-approached Article, the digital creative agency behind The Tig, to design the new Sussex Royal website.

It has been designed using the pair’s signature colour palette of navy blue and grey with bold key messages including “supporting community”, “serving the monarchy” and “strengthening the commonwealth” giving us a glimpse into their plans for the future.

The creative agency is based in Toronto, a place where Meghan Markle spent a considerable amount of time whilst filming legal drama, Suits.

It’s also the home to one of her best friends, Jessica Mulroney.

Meghan Markle announced her plans to shut down her lifestyle blog in August 2017, after her romance with Prince Harry began to blossom.

As well as a lifestyle platform, she would also send out weekly newsletters to subscribers and it had its own Instagram account.

Upon closing the website, she wrote: “After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it’s time to say goodbye to The Tig.”

“What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity.”

“You’ve made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy. Keep finding those Tig moments of discovery, keep laughing and taking risks and keep being “the change you wish to see in the world”.”

“Above all, don’t ever forget your worth - as I’ve told you time and time again: you, my sweet friend, you are enough.”

They announced their plans to become “financially independent” from the Royal Family yesterday, sparking a host of questions about what financial independence will really mean for them.

The statement from Buckingham Palace read: “Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage.”

“We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
