Things have changed for the better when it comes to boots. In the old days, if you wanted quality, you had no choice but to shell out a hefty chunk of change. And if you didn't want to spend a lot? Well, you had to make do with a pair that might look fine for a while, but definitely weren't designed to stay looking good (or, frankly, stay comfortable). Thankfully, those days are gone.

Because now you can buy Goodyear-welted boots that are made from high-end leather, built for comfort and longevity, and designed to be timelessly stylish-all for less than $200. Here's why it's worth investing in a pair of Thursday's Captain cap-toe boots.

They're Built Like the Classics.

There's a reason people laid down some serious dough for their boots back in the day: quality. And one of the hallmarks of quality footwear is a Goodyear welt construction, like you'll find on Thursday's Captain boots. I won't get into the nuts and bolts of it here, but it basically means two things. One, you get some extra protection from the elements, by way of the welt itself keeping water from creeping into the seam between the upper and the sole. Two, the specific construction method allows you-or, really, your cobbler-to easily replace the soles, thereby extending the life of your shoes or boots indefinitely. Just make sure you take care of the uppers.

The Materials Are Seriously Solid.

Speaking of the uppers: Thursday uses leather that's ready for some real-world wear and tear. The chrome-tanned hide is thick and durable, even though it's surprisingly comfortable right out of the box. Of course, it gets better as it begins to wear in and shape itself to your foot, making your boots that much more comfortable. Plus, it looks even cooler with a few miles on it. Be sure to take decent care in the long run, but beyond basic maintenance-don't let them dry out, and keep them conditioned-you can scuff 'em or shine 'em to your heart's content. They'll look great either way.

They're an Incredible Value.

I've already mentioned this, but it bears repeating that these things cost less than $200. From the construction to the components, it's a great price for all that you're getting. Think of it this way: For less than the price of a pair of hyped-up sneakers, you're investing in a pair of boots that you'll still be wearing when all those trend-obsessed guys have moved onto the latest thing. And unlike the folks chasing the next fashion wave, you can rest assured that these boots-classic, well-made, and affordable-will never go out of style.
