They may have had the ultimate fairytale wedding at Windsor Castle but that’s not to say Princess Eugenie and her now-husband Jack Brooksbank don’t like to keep it real every now and again.

While everything was run by strict protocol for their October royal nuptials, according to Eugenie’s mum Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson, behind the scenes was a completely different story.

Rather than staying in some lavish hotel the night before their honeymoon as many would expect, Fergie revealed to the Daily Mail that the newlyweds instead opted to spend the night at home with family.

“The Sunday after the wedding, I said to Eugenie and Jack: ‘Do you want to stay somewhere special?’” Fergie explained.

“No. They wanted to stay at Royal Lodge.”

“So the night before their honeymoon, the whole family were eating pizza together in the kitchen.”

The Duchess of York – who made a grand comeback at her daughter’s royal wedding – also spoke of her heartbreak that the late Princess Diana was not able to be present at the wedding.

The pair had been close friends back in the day as they supported each other during the process of marrying into the royal family.

“I thought of absent friends and family; of Diana… Diana was my best friend and the funniest person I knew,” she said.

Fergie continued to praise Diana for her ‘timing and wit’ and ‘tinking laughter’ while speaking of how much she enjoyed life and would have loved to be there not only for Eugenie’s wedding but also her son Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in May.
