‘Sully’ Schedules Flight To China
EXCLUSIVE: The Clint Eastwood-directed film about US Airways Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger will make its debut in the Middle Kingdom on December 9.
The news comes as Tom Hanks’ other autumn release, Inferno, opens in China this weekend. Word is that the story of the “Miracle on the Hudson” was very popular in China, and it’s the main reason why they’re booking Sully. Already, Sully has grossed $60M overseas and $121.1M stateside for a combined global take of $181.1M. Sully’s top offshore markets include Japan ($12.3M), Australia ($9.7M), South Korea ($4.7M), United Arab Emirates ($3.4M) and Taiwan ($3.1M).
Among Hanks’ live-action titles, it’s the two-time Oscar winner’s third-best domestic opening of his career at $35M and Eastwood’s second-best after American Sniper. Hanks’ Dan Brown threequel Inferno has accumulated $100M abroad already prior to its U.S./Canada opening this weekend, which is expected to be in the mid $20Ms.
