Suicide Squad Expected To Make $700 Million

It looks as though ‘Suicide Squad’ has made a killing.

According to Mark Hughes of Forbes, ‘Suicide Squad’ has made another $60 million at the box office in the last few days… and should hit around $700 million by the end of its run.

#SuicideSquad added $60M globally past 7 days, raising total to $636M,” he said via Twitter. “If it falls 50% each week it adds $30M –> $15M –> $7M –> $3M etc. But if it falls 60% each week it adds $24M –> $9.6 –> $3.8 –> $1.5 etc.”

This is definitely good news for Warner Bros. after the film saw a 40% drop off in ticket sales after the first week of release.

But it looks as though plenty of DC fans just hadn’t got round to seeing it.

“So, without Japan #SuicideSquad will take b/w $675M and $695M. Japan should add b/w $10-20M. This is MATH, so it’s silly to deny it,” he added. “This all means #SuicideSquad will end its run with a total of b/w about $685M to $715M, high-end to low-end estimate. Again, it’s math.”

If ‘Suicide Squad’ does manage to push past the $700 million mark, this will place the film ahead of other comic book movies such as ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘Man of Steel’ and even possibly ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’.

Quite an achievement considering the lukewarm critical reactions.

But will it turn a profit?

The reported budget stands at $175 million, but there have been rumours that Warner bros. spent quite a bit more on bringing ‘Suicide Squad’ to the big screen. But it’s thought that it will need to rake in at least $750 million at a minimum.

Whether or not ‘Suicide Squad’ makes that magic number remains to be seen.

But it’s certainly done a lot better than some of us expected.

‘Suicide Squad’ opened in cinemas on 5 August 2016.
