‘Suicide Squad’ Adds Ezra Miller’s The Flash To Mix
Warner Bros’ upcoming DC film Suicide Squad has been given a dash (sorry) of superheroism with Ezra Miller set to make his second DC Films cameo appearance as the Flash in the supervillains-as-heroes pic that hits theaters August 5.
The news was made public in the least flashy way possible — as part of the Suicide Squad press notes from critics screenings the studio has been holding this week. No information about the length of Miller’s appearance or the Flash’s impact on the story has been disclosed, and Warner Bros had no comment, but we’re hearing the appearance was filmed during the Suicide Squad reshoots in the spring. Miller’s take on the Flash debuted in two brief scenes in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which bowed March 25 in North America. One scene showed Miller out of costume as Barry Allen, stopping a robbery in a convenience store; the second occurred in a prophetic dream sequence during which Bruce Wayne is warned that allowing Lois Lane to be killed will result in Superman turning evil (it’s a weird moment to be sure).
The interesting thing, though? Rumors — backed by a brief glimpse in two of the film’s trailers — have for months held that Ben Affleck’s Batman will be making a cameo in Suicide Squad. Affleck’s name doesn’t appear in the press notes, however. If the Flash reveal was a misdirection, well played, Warner Bros, well played.
Written and directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad sees some of the worst villains from the DC Universe — Deadshot, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, Boomerang, El Diablo, Enchantress, Slipknot and Katana — forced into a government-funded black ops task force to take out threats even worse than themselves. It stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood and Cara Delevingne.
