Studio Ghibli theme park to feature Totoro playroom and Kiki's house
In 2019, it was reported that the upcoming Studio Ghibli theme park, which will be located in Aichi Expo Memorial Park to the east of Nagoya city in Japan, has five areas planned: Dondoko Forest, Ghibli’s Giant Warehouse, Youth Hill, Mononoke Village, and Witch Valley. More details of the theme park has since been released, to the joy of eager Studio Ghibli fans.
One of the new attractions announced is the Totoro playroom, which will be part of Ghibli’s Giant Warehouse. A released illustration revealed that visitors can expect to see Mei and Satsuki’s house, the sacred camphor tree and the iconic Catbus — essentially it's a play area for children and families. This playroom differs from the larger reconstructions of My Neighbour Totoro scenes in the Dondoko Forest.
In addition to the garden ruins from Laputa: Castle In The Sky and the home of Arrietty, Ghibli’s Giant Warehouse will also welcome a 6.3-metre long replica of an airship from Laputa: Castle In The Sky.
Youth Hill will see a recreation of Whisper Of The Heart’s rotary plaza and a miniature version of The Cat Return’s cat’s office, besides the full-sized replica of the Chikyuya antique shop from Whisper Of The Heart.
Meanwhile, Mononoke Village will feature the charcoal burner’s shop, and an area that lets visitors experience working at Irontown.
Apart from Howl’s castle, Witch Valley will recreate Kiki’s Delivery Service’s Kiki’s childhood home Okino house and a “witch’s house” said to be Kiki’s home after she moves to her new town.
According to the map above, the five areas are scattered around the park. Dondoko Forest (purple), Ghibli’s Giant Warehouse (pink), and Youth Hill (yellow) are scheduled to open in the fall of 2022, while Mononoke Village (green), and Witch Valley (red) will open in 2023.
