Student Academy Award Winners Announced

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the winners of the 43rd Student Academy Awards on Monday.

For 2016, the Academy selected 17 winners in seven categories. For the first time, the foreign film category has been expanded to include awards for narrative, animation and documentary entries. All Student Academy Award-winning films are eligible to compete for 2016 Academy Awards in the documentary short subject, animated short film and live action short film category, respectively.

This year’s winners include:

Narrative
“It’s Just a Gun,” Brian Robau, Chapman University
“Nocturne in Black,” Jimmy Keyrouz, Columbia University
“Rocket,” Brenna Malloy, Chapman University

Foreign Narrative
“Invention of Trust,” Alex Schaad, University of Television and Film Munich (Germany)
“Tenants,” Klara Kochanska, The Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School (Poland)
“Where the Woods End,” Felix Ahrens, Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF (Germany)

Foreign Animation

Foreign Documentary
“The Most Beautiful Woman,” Maya Sarfaty, Tel Aviv University (Israel)

Past winners of the Student Academy Awards include Pete Docter, Cary Fukunaga, John Lasseter, Spike Lee, Trey Parker and Robert Zemeckis. The ceremony will occur on Thursday, Sept. 22 at at 7:30 p.m. the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.
