Steven Spielberg: I'll Never Remake Jaws

In these days of remakes and reboots, sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that some movies are truly sacred.

But pleasingly, Steven Spielberg is all over this.

During a chat with US movie site Deadline, the legendary director spelled out that a remake of ‘Jaws’ is not happening on his watch.

“I would never remake 'Jaws’,” he said.

However, that’s not to say that the catalogue of movies from his own Amblin Entertainment stable is out of bounds completely.

“I would never remake one of my own movies… but there are Amblin titles in the library that could inspire new stories that were made popular by the films.

“There isn’t a single title that I’ve earmarked, but yes, I would like to.”

Spielberg founded Amblin in 1981 with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy and director Frank Marshall, in order to make the rom-com 'Continental Divide’ with John Belushi.

'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’ emerged a year later in 1982, a sillouette from which is still makes up the company’s logo.

Movies in the company’s extensive catalogue include 'The Goonies’, 'Young Sherlock Holmes’, 'Innerspace’, all the 'Back To The Future’ movies, 'Gremlins’ and 'Jurassic Park’, as well as more recently 'Lincoln’, 'The Adventures of Tintin’ and 'Bridge of Spies’.

Next up is the movie version of Roald Dahl’s classic 'The BFG’ and 'Ready Player One’.
