Steve Tam addresses allegations of falsifying achievements

29 Jun - Steve Tam, father of talented young singer Celine Tam, recently addressed the allegations concerning his supposed false academic credentials.

As reported on Mingpao, the media previously unearthed past allegations about the vocal coach known to his students as Dr. Steve, following the viral success of daughter Celine's audition on the reality show, "America's Got Talent".

Many questioned the authenticity of his credentials and the Doctor status linked to his name, especially since he only has a PhD in Business Administration, and not music.

Speaking to the media about the issue recently, Steve stated that he used the name "Dr. Steve" when he set up a headhunting firm, way before he established his singing school following Celine's talent discovery. He stated to have never actually said he has a doctorate in music, and that people made the mistake of thinking he has one after the fact.

He also expressed his belief that his students joined his class because of his way of teaching, and not actually because of the 'doctor' in his name.

"If anyone has misunderstood my music qualification because of the name 'Dr Steve,' I can only apologise for that," he said.

As to allegations that he falsified his victories in singing tournaments due to the clashes in the dates of the competitions mentioned on his website, Steve stressed that it wasn't fake as much as it's just a mistake because of his poor memory.

"It has already been 20 to 30 years and I couldn't memorise all the details. That is why there are some discrepancies in the details," he said.

Lastly, he promised to be a good father to Celine and thanked everybody for their support.
