Llyod’s Inn

It’s been called one of the more interesting boutique hotels and is one of the more popular places for hipsters on the lookout for staycation options. Just check out the minimalist rooms here and see what we mean; it’s almost as if the rooms were tailor made for Instagram.

Don’t let the raw and seemingly minimal surroundings put you off. This conveniently located 34-room hotel features spacious rooms and is surrounded by enough greenery to make you forget that the hotel is just a 10-minute walk away from Orchard Road.

Room prices at this hidden oasis start from a reasonable $158 per night. A fair warning though: the boutique hotel is so popular that advance bookings are a must.

Village Hotel Changi

Situated just 10 minutes away from Changi International Airport, Village Hotel Changi is often a popular choice with business travellers attending trade shows at the nearby Singapore Expo. The location makes it a great place for couples looking to get away from the city centre bustle as well.

The hotel offers a Play & Stay package that starts from $170. You’ll get one night accommodation, complimentary breakfast as well as a complimentary two-hour cycling trip around scenic Changi Village.

Apart from exploring Changi Village, you could also hop on a ferry at nearby Changi Point to spend a few hours to explore rural Pulau Ubin.

Village Hotel Katong

The 229-room Village Hotel Katong reflects the strong Peranakan heritage of the surrounding Joo Chiat and Katong district in Singapore.

It is also probably one of the best hotels for family staycations, for the rooms are huge. The Family Room, for instance, sports two queen sized beds ideal for a family of four and it comes equipped with free Wi-Fi access and a 46-inch LED TV.

On top of that, there are an abundance of cafes, restaurants and coffee shops nearby, which makes dining out easy.

On weekdays, prices for a one-night stay ranges from $136 for a superior room with two single sized beds to $260 for a Peranakan Club room with a king sized bed.

If you’re planning a staycation with the kids, opt for the Family Weekend Savers Package which starts from $295. It includes equipment rental fees for an activity of choice for a family of four: choose between a round of mini golf, else go for inline skating or quad cycling at Big Splash.

Kam Leng Hotel

Situated along the busy Jalan Besar Road, the four-storey Kam Leng Hotel – which opened in 1927 – was once one of Singapore’s most well loved hotels favored by tourists all over the world.

The boutique hotel reopened in 2012, with each of the 70 rooms remodeled in Peranakan style furnishings and decor.

Comfort and affordability are the operative words here: Rooms start from $151, not bad for a getaway spot conveniently located near Little India, the Central Business District, City Square Mall at Farrer Park and Singapore’s 24 hour shopping mecca Mustafa Centre.

Another reason why you stay here: The owners have gone to lengths to ensure that the hotel retains its old world feel. While food options are aplenty in the area, a visit to hipster bar and café Suprette – located on the ground floor of the hotel – is also highly recommended, if only for The Suprette Burger, a tasty mélange of succulent beef patty and gruyere cheese tucked in between a perfectly toasted bun.

D’Kranji Farm Resorts

Looking for a staycation with a more rustic setting? How about heading to Kranji for your getaway. Yes, that suburb in northwestern Singapore – familiar territory to National Servicemen, Singapore Turf Club punters and organic food enthusiasts – also hosts one of the most unique vacation spots in Singapore.

D’Kranji Farm Resorts could also be one of the island’s more unusual vacation spots. It prides itself on being Singapore’s first “Agri-tainment” farm, offering tired urbanites fully air-conditioned villas and family suites overlooking the tranquil Kranji Countryside.

A stay at the Standard Villa, which comes with a Queen sized bed, private car porch and an open air bathroom – starts from $150 a night. There are dining options conveniently available on-site. The nearby Swiftlet Garden Museum – apparently the world’s first museum dedicated to feathery friends responsible for edible bird’s nest – could be another source of amusement during your stay.
