Celebrities support Time's Up movement for second year running at 2019 Golden Globes

Celebrities showed their support for the Time’s Up movement for the second year running at the Golden Globes 2019.

Last year, stars including Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep, opted to wear black in protest of sexual harassment in Hollywood and beyond.

And this year, as proof that the cause had not been forgotten attendees opted to sport black and white bracelets and ribbons that read ‘Time’s Up x2.’

Designed by Arianne Phillips, who created the Time’s Up pins worn by many at last year’s Golden Globes, the new show of support marks the second year of the movement with proceeds going towards the Time’s Up legal defense fund.

So far, the fund has helped provide around 4,000 men and women with necessary legal resources to battle workplace harassment.

Stars such as Julianne Moore, Amy Adams, Debra Messing, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron all showed their support by opting to wear the accessories in various different ways.

While Claire Foy and Amber Heard tied them around their wrists, Olivia Colman, Caitriona Balfe and Laura Dern attached them to their handbags

Other stars like Jane The Virgin actress, Gina Rodriguez, went a step further by actually attaching the ribbons to their outfits.

Ahead of the event, many stars took to social media to reflect on the anniversary of Time’s Up.

Taking to Instagram, Reese Witherspoon shared photos from last year’s Golden Globes alongside a caption which read: “I will forever remember last year’s #GoldenGlobes, when we stood together in solidarity to fight for equality, parity, safety and inclusion.

“May we continue to celebrate risk takers in our industry and beyond, who challenge status quo and fight for change!”

A year ago, we embarked on a campaign to create safer work places. Since then, thousands of survivors have been provided resources through the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund. We created the Fund because all people deserve to be safe at work, but safety alone is far from our end goal. It’s the bare minimum. Sexual harassment stems from an in balance of power. Issues of workplace safety for women, and especially for women of color, are but a symptom of the power inbalance that plagues nearly every sector. We won’t stop fighting until there is gender balance in leadership and all women have opportunity to reach their full potential at work. It’s been a record year for women, with a landmark number elected to Congress and a slew of diverse firsts, but we still have so far to go. And it’s not because women aren’t working hard enough or aren’t capable enough. The system is fundamentally broken. Women are over represented in many low paying jobs but under represented in leadership positions across nearly every industry. We shoulder greater caregiving responsibilities for children and elderly parents and are more likely to live in poverty. This picture is not acceptable. That’s why, at the beginning of our second year, we are launching #TIMESUPX2, to double the number of women in leadership and across other spaces where women are under represented. Debra Messing also went online before the ceremony to snap a picture of the bracelet: “A year ago, we embarked on a campaign to create safer work places.
