StarHub will be progressively introducing seven new channels on its TV platform from 3 July while also bidding farewell to 11 Discovery channels by the end of August.

The new channels are: Tamil entertainment channel COLORS Tamil HD, combat sports channel FIGHT SPORTS HD, Japanese entertainment channel GEM HD, food and lifestyle channel Gusto TV HD, Canadian lifestyle channel Makeful HD, travel channel Travelxp HD, and education channel CuriosityStream HD, which was created by the founder of Discovery Channel.

“The channels were handpicked as they are enjoying growing viewership and popularity in overseas markets,” said Lee Soo Hui, StarHub’s Head of Content Business Unit, in a news release on Monday (25 June).

StarHub TV customers will be able to enjoy the new channels as they are launched over the coming months. Free previews of over 30 channels from the News, Kids, Education, Entertainment and Lifestyle Basic Groups are available to customers from now till 15 July.

As for the termination of StarHub TV’s Discovery channels, this will be done in two phases: on 30 July and 31 August. It was reported last month that Discovery had failed to reach an agreement with StarHub for a renewal deal on the former’s channels.

Seven channels – The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Discovery Science, TLC, Discovery Asia, Setanta and Eurosport – will end transmission on StarHub TV after 30 July, whereas another four channels – HGTV, Asian Food Channel, Food Network and Travel Channel – will be axed from StarHub TV as well after 31 August.
