Star Wars: Rogue One Actor Mads Mikkelsen Comments On Reshoots

Actor Mads Mikkelsen says the upcoming ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ is “still the same film,” despite the much-discussed reshoots.

Reports of discontent behind the scenes on director Gareth Edwards’ ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ prequel have been popping up left and right of late, causing a great disturbance in the force - or in fandom, at least.

But the ‘Hannibal’ and ‘Casino Royale’ star tells The Independent fans have nothing to worry about.

Mikkelsen’s ‘Rogue One’ role has been kept under wraps, and the actor jokes, “I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to say without killing you.”

He then goes on to argue (as others have) that reshoots are a very standard practice on blockbusters.

“Basically, all the big films I have done always have reshoots, it is part of their budget. They’re either not super happy with a scene bit, the way we were acting, or maybe there’s something they want to add.

“It’s not a new thing, it happens with every film. Whether it’s bigger or less, I have no idea, I have nothing to compare with.

“It’s the same film, it’s just adding little bits here and there to do the final polishing. That’s my feeling.”

Not only is Mikkelsen unconcerned about the controversy, he also suggests that studio Disney and Lucasfilm “love it,” as “it’s free publicity.”

Cinemagoers may be seeing a lot of Mikkelsen late this year, as he will appear in Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ (also in an as-yet undisclosed role) in UK cinemas 28 October.

After that, ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ opens on 16 December.
