As expected, the ‘Star Wars’ team won’t be wasting much time in getting underway on the third chapter in the new trilogy. Evidence has emerged that ‘Star Wars Episode IX’ will commence principal photography this July at Pinewood Studios, West London.

A listing stating as such has been posted at film industry professional site My Entertainment World. This comes on top of a casting call for extras spotted by Omega Underground in February, which also pointed to a July start date.

Given that upcoming ‘The Force Awakens’ follow-up ‘The Last Jedi’ remains shrouded in mystery, naturally we know even less about the as-yet untitled ninth film in the ‘Star Wars’ series. All we can really say for sure is that it’s set to be directed by Colin Trevorrow (‘Jurassic World’), who has also co-written the script with Derek Connolly, from a story treatment by ‘The Last Jedi’ writer-director Rian Johnson (‘Looper’).

It also seems safe to anticipate the return of series stars Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver – although it remains to be seen what will become of General Leia Organa, portrayed by the late Carrie Fisher, whose final performance will feature in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’

‘The Last Jedi’ will open in UK cinemas on 15 December, whilst ‘Episode IX’ is due in 2019. The as-yet untitled ‘Han Solo’ film will land between the two in May 2018.
