Star Wars: Han Solo Spin-Off Films Early 2017

It’s official – the Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ spin-off starts filming early 2017.

Announced during the Future Filmmakers panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe, it looks as though the Han Solo movie is preparing to haul jets. But not for a few months…

“It’s still very, very early,” said ‘Han Solo’ director Lord and Miller. “We’re still working on the script with Larry and Jon Kasdan… [cameras will role] probably end of January, very early February so we’ve got a good six months of prep.

“There’s a lot of sets to design and build, and characters and robots and aliens and crazy creatures… so there’s a lot of prep that goes into a movie like this.”

“I can sort of relate to him,” they explained. “He doesn’t wanna do anything that he’s told. When you tell him not to do something it makes him want to do it more. He’s very sarcastic, and at the end of the day he’s unreasonably optimistic and I think that’s why we fall for this guy and we got so excited about making this movie.”

But that’s not all – new Han Solo star Alden Ehrenreich joined the panel.

And it looks as though Han Solo is not the only classic ‘Star Wars’ character to return during his self-titled spin-off movie.

“The coolest part of that audition process was that I went on the Falcon… and that is, I mean… it’s like, it’s pretty unbelievable,” said ‘Han Solo’ star Alden Ehrenreich before revealing who he was on set with.

“Chewbacca,” he said. “Which is pretty incredible. I’ve never acted with a wookiee before so, that’s a whole different thing. I had a blaster and the whole costume and everything.”

Will any other classic ‘Star Wars’ characters join Han and Chewie on their next adventure?

Unfortunately, very little is known about the untitled Han Solo movie… In fact, the entire rest of the cast remains a mystery. Of course, with production just beginning, it could be some time before we find out.

Alden Ehrenreich stars as the young Han Solo. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will direct, based on a screenplay by Jon and Lawrence Kasdan,

The Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ spin-off heads to cinemas on 25 May 2018.
