Star Wars 8 Sees Return Of Captain Phasma

It looks as though everyone’s favourite chrome Stormtrooper is back…

During an interview with People Magazine, ‘Star Wars’ actress Gwendoline Christie confirmed that her stalwart First Order captain will be back in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’.

“I will be in the next Star Wars movie,” she confirmed. “I think that’s an exclusive, actually.“

Of course, the 37-year-old British actress – known for the role of Brienne of Tarth in the hit TV show ‘Game of Thrones’ – played role of Captain Phasma in ‘The Force Awakens’.

And while John Boyega’s former-Stormtrooper Finn seems to have escaped her clutches for the time being, I get the feeling it won’t be long before his dark past catches up with him.

“I was very overexcited,” she said about starring in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. “I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time. And then I was delighted when J.J. Abrams wanted to have me in the film and then wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man.”

The now-iconic costume was a bit of a mystery for fans in the months leading up to the film’s release… and after some concept art of the chrome trooper’s costume leaked online, everyone was desperate to know who was behind the helmet.

“I thought the costume was incredibly striking. I also just liked this notion of a female stormtrooper,” Christie said. “I felt it encouraged diversity and it was doing something new and it was an interesting bit of casting for women, and I hope that in something that was such a mainstream success it would breed more of those kind of opportunities for other women.”

How will Captain Phasma fit into ‘Star Wars 8’? For now, we’ll have to wait and see…

But Finn has a tough time ahead of him with Phasma on his tail.

‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
