Star Wars 7 Theatrical Poster Reveals New Death Star & More…

It’s finally here – the official ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ theatrical poster has been unveiled… and it may reveal a lot more than we thought.

This impressive poster was unveiled today after rumours that we’d be getting our first glimpse at the official theatrical poster… and with the full official trailer confirmed for tomorrow, it looks as though it’s an exciting weekend for ‘Star Wars’ fans.

But wait – is that a Death Star on the new poster?

Star Wars 7’s New Super-Weapon?

It’s been rumoured for some time that ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ would feature an all-new space weapon which could be capable of destroying entire star systems.

Consider it a huge upgrade to the original Death Stars.

But while the weapons of Starkiller Base have been kept under wraps, it looks as though we may finally have our first glimpse at The First Order’s dastardly plans… and this new, star-destroying WMD might even blow the Death Star out of the water.

A Link Between Rey and Kylo Ren?

One of the more interesting aspects of the new poster is how Rey and Kylo Ren are positioned… side-by-side but clearly indicating conflict. Are they two sides of the same coin?

Interestingly, the way Rey’s staff overlaps with Kylo’s new lightsabre makes it look as though she’s wielding a double-bladed sabre a la Darth Maul. And I can’t help thinking this is entirely intentional.

Will we see Rey pick up a double-bladed sabre by the end of the movie? And will she use it against Kylo Ren? More importantly, is there more to this pairing than meets the eye?

Luke Skywalker Remains Unseen

Once again, original trilogy hero Luke Skywalker has been omitted… and at this stage it seems like a very deliberate move.

We haven’t seen a single shot of him in either of the two official teaser trailers. He’s been notably absent from the ‘Star Wars 7’ promotional materials and now he’s failed to make the film’s official poster.

But what does this mean?

Clearly, there’s plenty of mystery surrounding the last of the Jedi… and perhaps that’s rather the point. We’ve heard rumours for some time that a large portion of the film would be spent trying to track the ageing Jedi across the galaxy.

But what will our heroes find when they eventually catch up with him? This remains a mystery.

Lupita Nyong’o’s Maz Kanata Revealed?

Another notable absence throughout the ‘Star Wars 7’ trailers has been Lupita Noyong’o’s character, the mysterious pirate leader, Maz Kanata. But does the official poster finally reveal what she looks like?

Featured just beside R2-D2 and C-3PO is a previously unseen alien… and I can’t help thinking that this creature has to be important to be featured on the official theatrical poster.

There are still lots of characters we haven’t seen – including Andy Serkis’ First Order leader, Supreme Leader Snoke. But this unknown alien just doesn’t look evil enough for my liking… and I can’t help thinking it could be Maz Kanata.

Of course, it could also be Rey’s scavenger pal Teedo who we’ve seen featured in some official set pictures.

After all, we’re still not entirely sure what’s under his mask.

Either way, it looks as though we’ve got plenty of new hints from the first official poster… and with the full trailer to be revealed tomorrow, there’s going to be plenty of new info for ‘Star Wars’ fans to paw over in the coming days.

Will the trailer reveal any new information or confirm any long-standing rumours?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But the new poster certainly gives us a lot to think about.
