Stand-Up Producer Comedy Dynamics Hires Griffin Gmelich, Former Hulu Exec, to Head Biz Dev and Distribution

Indie stand-up comedy production and distribution firm Comedy Dynamics has hired Griffin Gmelich, who has 18 years of experience in the entertainment biz, as senior VP of business development and distribution.

In the newly created position, Gmelich will oversee existing partnerships and is tasked with developing new business opportunities with both established and rising platforms and accounts. He will work at the company’s L.A. headquarters and report to Comedy Dynamics founder Brian Volk-Weiss.

“Comedy Dynamics has continued to morph itself into a key player for not just stand-up specials, but television and episodic programming,” Gmelich said. “The company is built for extreme growth, with the changing programming strategies happening today.”

Gmelich most recently was senior VP of sales and business development at Gravitas Ventures. Prior to that, he spent three years at Hulu, where he headed film acquisitions. He also previously worked at Entertainment One as VP of sales, ran his own consulting firm, Foundation Sales and Consulting, and served as VP of sales at Universal-Vivendi. Gmelich began his career entertainment at Warner Bros. Home Video where he helped to launch the DVD.

Comedy Dynamics’ current TV projects include “Animal Nation with Anthony Anderson” for Animal Planet; “Join Or Die with Craig Ferguson” for History; MTV2’s “Wild ‘N’ On Tour” and “Coming To The Stage”; and a new show for MTV with Zac Efron called “Spooning with… Zac Efron.” The company has worked with a range of established and emerging comedic talent including Kevin Hart, Louis CK, Aziz Ansari, Jim Gaffigan and Katt Williams, and has licensed a number of stand-up specials to Netflix.

“Louis CK Live at Madison Square Garden,” produced by Comedy Dynamics, won the Grammy for best comedy album in 2016. Overall, eight of the company’s comedy albums produced between 2013-2015 have been nominated for Grammys.
