Spielberg, Coppola and del Toro team for Netflix documentary about Hollywood war movies
A new Netflix Originals documentary series will look at how depictions of war changed in Hollywood following the Second World War.
Called ‘Five Came Back’, the series will focus on the stories of five filmmakers as told through interviews with five current Hollywood legends.

Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, Lawrence Kasdan and Paul Greengrass will discuss how the experiences of five directors of the time who served int he war, influenced war on the big screen once they returned.
Those directors include John Ford, who directed ‘The Searchers’ in 1956, William Wyler, who directed ‘Ben-Hur’ upon his return from the war and John Huston, who helmed ‘The Maltese Falcon’ during the war and ‘The African Queen’ afterwards.
The remaining two are Frank Capra, director of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ in 1946, and George Stevens, who went on to direct ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ in 1959.
Alongside the series’ release on 31 March, Netflix will also bring 13 of the documentaries discussed to its streaming service.
These include Ford’s ‘The Battle of Midway’, Wyler’s ‘The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress’, Huston’s ‘Report from the Aleutians’, Capra’s ‘The Battle of Russia and Stevens’ ‘Nazi Concentration Camps’.
Directed by Laurent Bouzereau and narrated by Meryl Streep, a trailer for the series was also released and is embedded above.
