Spider-Man: Homecoming Cast Adds Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier

The new ensemble set to join Tom Holland in his first solo adventure as Spider-Man continues to grow, with the addition of two new young cast members.

Deadline reports that Tony Revolori (’The Grand Budapest Hotel’) has been cast in the Sony/Marvel co-production, whilst The Wrap revealed the casting of Laura Harrier (TV’s ‘One Life To Live’) - but it’s not known which characters these actors will portray.

There is some speculation about Revolori’s role, with Deadline claiming he will portray “Peter Parker’s nemesis/enemy at high school,” though they emphasise he isn’t a super-villain.

However, this runs contrary to The Wrap’s claim that Revolori will be a friend Peter’s, named Manuel.

By contrast, no hints have been dropped about Harrier’s role.

Obviously the temptation is there to assume the actors may have been cast in classic Spidey roles - given the first character description, Revolori could be a new Flash Thompson, whilst Harrier might be a new Mary-Jane Watson or Gwen Stacey - but at this point it’s every bit as likely they could be brand new characters.

One thing that has long been hinted about this new ‘Spider-Man’ reboot from director Jon Watts is that, by contrast with the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb movies, they intend to keep Peter Parker in high school for longer.

It was for this reason they deliberately cast a younger actor, the currently 19-year old Holland, in the lead role; and it has been rumoured that we can expect a John Hughes-esque high school comedy vibe to the film.

Regardless of who they’re portraying, Revolori and Harrier join Holland and the previously announced Zendaya, who will star as an allegedly new character named Michelle (and she’s been described as ‘mysterious,’ which surely means we can expect big things from her).

On the grown-up side, Marisa Tomei will co-star as the youngest Aunt May yet, whilst Michael Keaton is said to be in talks for the bad guy role, which may be The Vulture.

Producer/Marvel president Kevin Feige has also stated that we can expect cameos from other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters - and Robert Downey Jr has since hinted that he might make an appearance as Iron Man.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ opens in July 2017 - but before that we can see Tom Holland make his debut as Spider-Man in ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ in UK cinemas 29 April.
