"Spider-Man" director eyed as new helmer of "Doctor Strange" sequel

6 Feb – Early last month, "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" lost its director when Scott Derrickson decided to step down due to creative differences, though he will stay on as executive producer.
Marvel Studios is now reportedly eyeing Sam Raimi to take over the reins, according to Variety.
Raimi is best known for directing the 2002 to 2007 "Spider-Man" trilogy, starring Tobey Maguire. He hasn't followed up that success with more superhero movies but has instead focused on directing and producing horror movies like "Drag Me to Hell", "Evil Dead", "Don't Breathe" and most recently, this year's "The Grudge".
Accepting the offer will bring Raimi back into the superhero universe, directing Benedict Cumberbatch who will be reprising the titular role he first debuted as in 2016's "Doctor Strange".
"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" is set to hit the big screen in May 2021.
Both Disney+ series "WandaVision" and "Loki" will be linked to it, with Elizabeth Olsen joining the cast as Wanda a.k.a. Scarlett Witch, but it is yet to be confirmed whether Tom Hiddleston will be reprising his role as Loki in the movie.
The official synopsis for the sequel reveals that after the events of "Avengers: Endgame", Doctor Strange continues his research on the Time Stone. However, he unleashes an unspeakable evil when an old friend-turned-enemy, who seeks to destroy every sorcerer on Earth, messes with Strange's plan.
