Spider-Man was actually in “Iron Man 2,” and our minds are blown
When Captain America: Civil War came out, we were so excited because we were not only seeing an incredible film, we were also getting a first look at the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero, Spider-Man, who was making his first appearance in the franchise — or so we thought.
It turns out that Spider-Man, or more accurately, Peter Parker, made an appearance in a *much* earlier film in the franchise — Iron Man 2.
During a press day for his upcoming film Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland, who plays the teen superhero, revealed that one longstanding theory about a young Peter Parker appearing in Iron Man 2 is actually true. Holland told the Huffington Post that he had only *just* learned minutes earlier from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that the Peter was in Iron Man 2.

“I can confirm that as of today,” Holland said. “I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”
The big reveal refers to a scene during the climax of Iron Man 2, when drones attack the Stark Expo in Queens. A little kid wearing an Iron Man mask attempts to stop one of the drones, aka Iron Man, but is almost killed — until Tony Stark swoops in and saves him, with a little “nice work, kid” for flare.
Not gonna lie, the idea that the unnamed kid is actually Peter Parker is pretty charming, especially seeing how Tony Stark and Peter seem to have a tight bond. Holland even described it as being that of a “big brother/little brother, dad/son.” As ScreenCrush points out, the timeline also works out, as Peter is 15 years-old during Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, and seven years ago, he would have been about the same age as the little kid in the Iron Man mask.
So now it’s officially MCU canon. Tom Holland made his debut in Captain America: Civil War but Peter Parker’s been in the canon for years. To see the progress Spider-Man has made since his Iron Man 2 days, check out Spider-Man: Homecoming when it hits theaters on July 7th.
