This Southern U.S. City Was Just Named the Best in the Country for Celebrating Christmas, According to WalletHub

A record-setting 119 million people are expected to travel between Dec. 21 and Jan. 1 during the upcoming holiday season, and among the thousands of destinations, a new ranking reveals that some may be more festive than others.

The new report from WalletHub examined the best cities in the United States to celebrate Christmas, with various factors such as generosity, opportunity for gift shopping, and the prevalence of Christmas traditions and fun. Atlanta ranked in the top spot, with the evaluation giving high marks for the affordability throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area, and the high level of observance of the holiday 

“There are countless ways to experience Christmas time in Atlanta, from visiting dazzling light displays to exploring one of our seasonal markets,” Logan Doctson, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau's assistant manager of public relations, told Travel + Leisure. “Our hope is that visitors have an opportunity to embrace the unique experiences that make Atlanta truly magical during the holiday season.”

In celebration of the festive season, hotels throughout the Atlanta area have curated special programming. The Four Seasons Atlanta is offering cookie decorating, hot cocoa, and a special Christmas Day Brunch inside the newly opened restaurant, Brasserie Margot.

The full ranking of the top ten cities for Christmas celebrations includes:

  1. Atlanta

  2. Pittsburgh

  3. Seattle

  4. Las Vegas

  5. Orlando, Florida

  6. San Francisco

  7. St. Louis, Missouri

  8. Miami

  9. Chicago

  10. New York

The top 20 also include New Orleans, Honolulu, San Diego, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis. The report also analyzed which cities have the most Christmas Tree Farms per capita, with Miami, New York, Portland, Gilbert (Arizona), and Phoenix tying for first place. 

“With inflation making Christmas celebrations, gifts, food and travel more expensive, certain cities are much better for your wallet than others during the holiday," Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst, shared in a statement to T+L.
