Stoke City are in advanced talks over the signing of Wolves goalkeeper Matija Sarkic on a permanent deal, TEAMtalk understands.

Sarkic has spent the second half of the current campaign on loan at Stoke City from Wolves and Alex Neil’s side are keen to re-sign the Montenegro international on a full-time basis.

The 25-year-old has made just eight appearances during his loan stint at Stoke due to injury. However, he did manage to keep three clean sheets in those outings.

Sarkic did enough during his time in the Potteries to impress Stoke manager Neil and we understand the Scot is the driving force behind a permanent move that is advancing.

Neil sees Sarkic as his No 1 goalkeeper in the Championship from next season onwards. 29-year-old Jack Bonham will be installed as the No 2 and provide high quality cover.

Sarkic – who began his career at Anderlecht before moving to England with Aston Villa in 2015 – is likely to find himself third-choice keeper if retained at Molineux next season.

Julen Lopetegui counts Jose Sa and Dan Bentley among his more established options and a permanent Sarkic exit appears to be to the benefit of all involved.

The talented shot-stopper has racked up eight caps for the senior Montenegro side having risen through their Under-17s, U19s and U21s.

Sarkic is entering the final two years of his contract at Wolves and we understand he could be tempted by a move away that would allow him to feature more regularly at club level moving forward.
